MI5 warns of right wing opinion shifting from anti-migrant opinion to terrorism

We cannot speculate whether the person who killed AW was acting as an individual or part of a larger organisation that will come to light in due course. I think it's fair to say there are agitators on both the far left as well as the far right look at what's happening in France, schools being burned, teachers cowering behind barricades. Neither are benign or act in the public interest. They are self serving and malign, they might try and kid us, high ideals come into play, but they're horrible subversives who play on insecurities and not adverse to targeting individual communities. Increasing attacks on both Muslim and Jewish communities bear witness to that. Jews have a relatively much. much smaller population and they have been exponentially targeted. The far left are sometimes responsible for those, they're not the good guys, just as bad as the far right in many instances and once they've the bit between their teeth, like their opposite number they're just as capable of dishing it out with both barrels to whoever might challenge their dogmas terfs for example.

I don't doubt there are plenty of far right agitators, however lets not forget that an actual murder, that of Ann Widecombe was allegedly committed by an individual from the far left, who again allegedly had other people in his sights. I think both extremes present a threat.

Absolutely. Poor Ann. Let’s not also forget that the individual concerned also had a hit list of other Reform politicians. He actually stalked Nigel Farage, sat outside his house and allegedly poured lighter fuel in the porch. He had also been to Ann’s house and cased the joint (as they say) a year ago. IT was all very carefully planned. So much for the “kinder, more gentle politics” of the Left.

Hello primrose it must seem weird for a migrant thread being started by someone else😄😄

The prosecution have alleged that Kerry had an extreme far left mindset, but have yet to provide the evidence. Kerry does not as far as can be established belong to any extreme far left group. Until evidence is presented in court you cannot be sure exactly what took place, but to then suggest that the “kinder more gentle “ politics of the left is responsible is a tad daft.

There is a big difference between individual terrorist actors which as far as we know this man was, and organised acts of terrorism from groups though. I don’t think it is possible for individual actors to be stopped if the authorities are unaware in advance that they exist.

You would need industrial quantities of lighter fuel to cause real damage.

Is this incident a matter of contemporary police record?

This seems to tie in with reports that there has been Russian interference in our politics.
Dark money bring filtered through, to finance discord and weaponise grievance.

People are being radicalised by those who want to destabilise the UK.

They are being told that asylum seekers are the cause of all their problems. Asylum seekers could disappear tomorrow and the problems would still be there.

It's been a successful distraction technique

How many times do the same things have to be repeated before people realised that they are being “played”?

Cossy Wed 14-Oct-26 11:18:49

So the thousands of illegal migrants coming in without papers are not a threat to our security and stability?

The left just don’t get it.

The “left” absolutely DO get it.

Nowhere, at any time, on this site, in Real Life or from any Labour MP or the PM have I ever heard or seen “all refugees please come here, criminals especially welcome”.

All of us, wish the crossings to stop, some of us wish to see fair and just and legal ways for refugees to be able to come here and to come to other countries, to integrate, to work, to live their lives safely and in peace and for those living in said countries either born there or settled there, to be able to do the same.

In case you were not aware 300,000+ citizens are displaced and if Trump, Putin, Netunyahu and their ilk have their way there will be hundreds of thousands more.

What the “left” and many others utterly condemn is attempting to resolve this situation by violence, by mobs, by our own home grown criminals.

It’s no longer about “left” and “right” politics, it goes so much deeper.

I completely agree.

This is no longer, right and/or left, it’s extremism and it’s about right and wrong.

We get the issue, of course we do, what we don’t get or understand is the violence deemed necessary from the anti-migrant far right.

Maremia Wed 14-Oct-26 11:08:08

But, back to the OP, it's the weaponising of the issue that is dangerous.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 14-Oct-26 11:07:58

This scapegoating migrants is so redolent of the 30s and Moseley.

MI5 identified all the players causing risk to the U.K., but the biggest rise has been from the far right and the spill into terrorism, and who are giving the most work to the security services.

Yes, 'extremists ' are just that.
Extreme in their views, and, sadly, sometimes their actions.

Any extremism can easily become terrorism.

I’ve lifted this heading directly from a guardian headline.

I think that we have all seen how the language has shifted even on GN over recent times from relatively benign to becoming much more radical in its rhetoric, saying things that would not have been thought possible just a few short years ago.

There is absolutely no doubt that the anti-migrant groups have become radicalised and are a real threat to our security and stability.

I agree with this.
The far right have weaponised the migrant situation and we see increasingly worrying trends of people like Yaxley Lennon calling on the mob to turn up at certain entry points for migrants prepared to abuse the RNLI which now regularly receive death threats, and to attack the police.
We all know that the small boat situation needs to be addressed politically and by getting closer to the EU Burnham will probably try to get their cooperation with this, indeed maybe something similar to what existed before Brexit when there wasn’t a small boat issue and the numbers of migrants was lower.

Cossy Wed 14-Oct-26 10:02:49

I sadly agree.

Yes, small boats need to stop, yes, we need to review and improve our immigration policies and procedures.

No, we cannot go on as we are and no we should not continue to blame the 1% of our refugee population for every “woe” which afflicts our country.

Our newest elected Labour MP shows very very clearly that refugees can come into our country, integrate and become a very valuable asset to our country.

I’d sick and tired of hearing refugees being referred to as “illegal invaders”.

Some of the words and rhetoric which now appear to have become “acceptable” in our so called “civilised” country are sickening.

I suggest some of these so-called patriots do DNA tests and look to their own ancestors, they may well be surprised!
