Suella Braverman's daily water usage was equivalent to 18 baths a day.

According to files obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, the Reform UK MP's family used 1,504 litres of water daily at her Hertfordshire home during a five-month period starting in June 2024.

This volume of water was noted by the supplier, Affinity Water, to be enough to fill more than 18 bathtubs and was 368.54% higher than the average for a similar-sized household.

Good grief- the entitlement! Climate denial is no excuse.

Doesn't 368.54% higher mean 3.5 times more than the average similar-sized household?

Which doesn't indicate a household very water-aware, but neither is it a particularly scandalous amount more.

The % in the report could be misleading, with so many in the UK not mathematically inclined.

She's probably got a leak, it's very common in politics!

Isn't the concern that this was much higher in comparison compared to other households of similar size and during a drought then hose pipe ban in Hertfordshire? Not a great look for any politician.

foxie that did make me laugh 😂

I’m not sure about the accuracy of this report.

IPSA records show what she has claimed for water. No separate sewage charges are shown so one must assume these sums include those.

2024/25 Total £731.68
2025/26 Total £703.59
2026/27 to date £547.50

What I would say is that Braverman is married and has two children. Those sums would not be be excessive for a family of four.

However, MPs should not be claiming utilities to cover a whole family to live freely at the taxpayers expense.

It just popped up exactly like this on a newsfeed, so I naughtily just copied and pasted.

She probs has a swimming pool, or a huge water feature sculpted to look like herself. 😬

I don’t even know why Led By Donkeys even asked for this as IPSA records showing MPs expenses claims are open source.

The number the Mirror is reporting is higher than the same she has claimed which suggests she is apportioning costs and, as I said, they are not taking into account sewage charges. The records show she specifically did not claim for the general election hiatus.

I regard myself as a very economical user and yet as a singleton my metered bill for water and sewage is still £380 a year.

There was no hosepipe ban in Portsmouth in 2024 so perhaps she was using a lot of water in the garden. I don’t know but I am very wary of newspapers trying to conjure a story from nothing remarkable.
