A new book by Peter Pomerantsev entitled "This is not Propaganda" is described by the reviewer in the Evening Standard as " A disturbing deep dive into the online propaganda wars that are threatening democracy"
"The default information setting for Putin’s Russia is “confuse, dismay, divide and delay”, witnessed most strikingly in its 2014 annexation of Crimea in what Nato’s top commander called “the most amazing information warfare blitzkrieg” in history. Things have moved so fast, so completely, Pomerantsev argues, that the age-old relationship between propaganda and war has flipped. While propaganda used to be the adjunct to direct combat, “military operations are now handmaidens to the more important information effect”.

I wonder how many voters in the UK, the US and elsewhere are even aware of the powerful influence of political propaganda and misinformation, or, if they have heard of it, just dismiss it out of hand as "fake news"?
