Although seriously, during the transition period towards renewables, we do still need to ensure our gas/oil supplies - given recent crises like Ukraine and Iran.

It is a sensible decision.

I don't know if he actually wants it, but the speculation mill says he will give the go ahead for new drilling.

It seems a bit pointless really as there isn't a great deal of North sea oik left and having our own won't make any difference to our energy prices because it is always sold on the global market.

However, so long as the green agenda goes ahead, perhaps with more investment on climate proofing houses and putting solar on public buildings etc. the drilling won't hurt our economy and could provide some jobs. It might have been a sop to the Unite union, their leader was threatening disaffiliation if jobs in the North sea didn't materialise wasn't she?

Which might mean that Andy B will be in hoc[not sure if that is the right phrase] to the unions. Just like the 70s he appears to like?

And can someone remind me[pno one has to if they dont want to], why fossil fuels were seen as bad, and now seen as "good" by some?

If he butters up to people, who will actually be running the Country?

Actually I agree as well.I don't think he'll give the ok for new licences but will allow existing licences to go ahead. It would be a pragmatic decision that wouldn't compromise net zero but might help to protect us against being held ransom by other oil producing countries whilst we continue to develop our renewable energy production. It's not ideal but again I can see the sense in it.
