"Dreich" is voted most iconic Scots word, beating off contenders like "glaikit" and "shoogle".

Dreich has previously been voted favourite Scots word.

What's your favourite word ?

I like techy words too, such as "ping" used as a verb.

Eejit always makes me laugh. I like scunnered and stotting, too.

My current favourite is a two-word phrase I saw on Facebook this week, describing a holiday cottage - a 'Tabernacle chapel'.

I like, and use the word "obfuscation", a lot in my work life.
And "parsimonious".

Very useful, descriptive words.

Pusillanimous.

Chewbacca Wed 20-Nov-19 21:59:03

Another excellently descriptive word Greyduster; very fond of pusillanimous!

Mine is Cwtch. Has a few uses. Cwtch is a cuddle, a cupboard or even a bed. I love our Welsh language. ?

GlamGran59 You have brought back a lovely memory of one of my friends. We were both in our early 20s and after one spectacular Christmas party when she had fallen over and I went to help her up she told me 'Sorry I have had a temporary loss of the equilibrium ' how we giggled!

nipsmum Thu 21-Nov-19 10:23:33

Bosie, I've only heard it north of Scotland, it means cuddle. There is a charity shop in Aberdeen called Bosies.

Lancslass1 Thu 21-Nov-19 10:30:18

Lovely.

Camelotclub Thu 21-Nov-19 10:42:27

Chocolate

ToadsMum Thu 21-Nov-19 10:44:08

Eclectic. Sounds lovely, great to say

Although have to agree with Disneyfan cwtch is a great word - I married a Welshman - not a true English word to match it. DIL (English) agrées now also being married to a Welshman !

When I first started teaching I was really pleased with the way school employed so many disabled people to teach music. I didn't know the meaning of peripatetic - got confused with paraplegic!
My late mum's favourite word was thwart - I always incorporated it into the class spellings as a tribute to her.
I'm another one for mellifluous and chocolate.
