Galen, I think I wore my red drawers in 1964. I do remember that they were Bri-nylon. I think they're actually coming back in fashion - might have seen them in Primark. The only way I'd buy them now is for warmth in the winter and will not the kind of garment to be showing them off to anyone !

It could have been 1964. I can't remember what year I started uni. It was a five year course and I graduated in 1968.

In the early 60s while I was still a student a lot of us wore woolly bloomers - mine were red with black lace and green with white lace. Just right for St Andrews in the winter.

Galen I suspect that MrA's tie with the little pigs and MCP on it is still hanging in his cupboard!

I used to go to St Andrews Town Hall for 'the dancing' in the early 60's, anno. Did you ever happen to look in?

No, Marelli we usually had the 'hops' in the Union. Boring as hell but a bit of a ritual - if unattached, it was a complete cattle market.

St Andrews Town Hall 'dancing' was rather lively to say the least, anno! Now I go there for the Antique Fairs!

Aargh - why didn't I have woolly bloomers! St A is cold in the winter...
I did have a very thick warm fleecy red dress, though.

I went to hops (yes, cattle market), and once to the Town Hall - fancy dress, and I wore a silver and gold sari - I remember needing to find a woman who knew how to fold it!

Oh, I had completely forgotten the red bri nylon bloomers, the white knee high socks but the roll on which my Mother bought me for keeping my nylons up/tummy control was ridiculous in my case as I was the same shape as Twiggy with boobs resembling empire biscuits .

I enjoy going to the Antiques Fair at St Andrews Town Hall too [Marelli] then the best steak lunch ever at The Dunvegan Hotel.

We could have been under the same roof quite frequently, Allie!

I met my oh at a hop, 48 years ago!
It makes me feel very old to remember!

Many protests also took place in the 60's. Some of which I took an active part in as I began to become aware of injustices in society. All part of growing up during that time.

I had a very short dress from Biba that solved the problem by having knickers to match

But Galen just look at Cher at 67. Of course we both look like her! seriously I met you once and know that photo, good though it is, doesn't do you justice. I actually thought at 'the meet' how lovely you were.

Ah the matching knickers, humbertbear! A lady friend wore them when she visited me in Paris in May 1968 and created a sensation.

LizG, we could all look like Cher (well, almost) if we had the wherewithal or the inclination to have the kind of work done that keeps her eternally (and inappropriately) youthful.

I realised how to take photos of women of a certain age when my GD was wielding the camera and standing while I sat on the beach. Does wonders for the 60 year old face, I tell you, that looking up angle.
To cher's crédit she has probably spent about half her life in the gym as well. But that too requires resources - time, money and health.

Definitely not got the inclination anno I like to see character, laughter lines and movement in a face

I once made a mini dress out of some discarded curtains from school (they were a really nice sanderson-esque print with birds and flowers)
While wearing this in town a policeman told me to stop waving my arms around or he'd arrest me for indecent exposure.
I used to sometimes read the underwear ads in Exchange and Mart when I was about 17. Utterly amazed and somewhat bemused by adverts for "split crotch panties". Oh those innocent 1960s, how naiive were we, compared to today's 17 year olds.
We wore navy knickers to school, over a pair of white pants. Helped to keep the backside warm.

Galen Your bronze is beautiful - but I hope the portrait was just catching you at a moment of concentration or deep thought and doesn't really reflect your usual apparent optimism!
I think the trouble with portaits is that they rarely catch the real life and soul of the person underneath!

Always had fat chubby legs; must have worn minis but don't remember except for one time when someone made a nasty comment about my legs; think that was the last time they saw the light of day. On the subject of knickers can I point out that I've always thought the ugliest word in the English language is 'gusset'. Strangely enough I find that, these days, when girls/women can wear just about anything, it seems to be the ones with the worst legs that wear the shortest clothes .
