World Cup predictions please....

So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

Mexico

Spain

Chile v Australia - a draw!!

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 13-Jun-14 08:12:12

So the score was 3-1 to Brazil.

Here's the leaderboard so far.... <drum roll>

Pittcity 2
kittylester 1
Tegan 1
GrannyCaz1 1
Maggiemaybe 0
thatbags 0
rubysong 0

Now tell us your predictions for today's fixtures...

Mexico v Cameroon 5pm BBC1

Spain v Netherlands 8pm BBC1

Chile v Australia 11pm ITV

Don't worry, you don't actually have to watch the matches... grin Just guess who you think will win or if it'll be a draw!

To fancy up your entry and get an extra point per fixture, post a holiday snap (eg. a photo of holiday in either Mexico OR Cameroon, Spain OR Netherlands, Chile OR Australia). That's an extra three points up for grabs...

Well, my views on football are well known, just popped into this site thread to see what it was all about. Sorry, think the game was once 'beautiful' (wrong word for a sport! although it is a word that seems to have become attached to football) but now there is too much money (POOR BRAZIL!), too many prima donnas, so that it is no longer a sport in my opinion. Will not be watching, but will check this thread to see who picks the winner!

I'm even more clueless about how to add a local listing.

Here's a Local FAQs page: www.gransnet.com/gnlocal/gransnet-local-faq

Might want to keep it bookmarked in case this bonus round comes up again wink

You still get the bonus point, even if you get the prediction wrong, so it's worth doing to get ahead smile

Tegan Fri 13-Jun-14 00:05:15

Not a very enjoyable match sad. But at least no vuvuzelas [thus far].

Maggiemaybe Thu 12-Jun-14 23:27:50

Thanks for your help, Pittcity, but I guess the extra point would be irrelevant - I think I'm already headed for an early bath with my prediction of a draw. Who could have guessed that the 11/4 favourites would beat the 200/1 outsiders? blush

rubysong Thu 12-Jun-14 21:57:57

Sorry I've come in late (belly dancing night). Croatia to win 2-1.

Pittcity Thu 12-Jun-14 21:30:31

Maggiemaybe when adding a local listing it's OK to fib and say you are the owner - it just means you can edit the listing in future. If you have problems email [email protected] and they will rescue you.

Maggiemaybe Thu 12-Jun-14 20:43:49

I'm even more clueless about how to add a local listing. When I tried I was asked whether I was the owner of the business (I wish) or whether I wanted to hand the listing over to the local editor, and there isn't one. Can I have an extra point for effort instead?

Tegan Thu 12-Jun-14 20:41:35

That's as good a reason as any imo and one that Paul [rest his soul] would be proud of!

thatbags Thu 12-Jun-14 16:33:10

Croatia will win cos one of my granspals is there at the mo #prediction

Pittcity Thu 12-Jun-14 16:16:31

My prediction for tonight is a Brazil win.

Kings Arms, Frating, Essex is showing World Cup Matches and giving away a free drink every time England score! Have added listing to Gransnet Local Colchester and don't think the Landlord's profits will suffer too much. football

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 12-Jun-14 12:59:01

Oh yes - and for a bonus point - add a local listing for a pub near you showing the World Cup matches and post a link to your listing on this thread.

You can find your local page here: local.gransnet.com

Maggiemaybe Thu 12-Jun-14 12:23:08

Count me in, Kat please. I'm totally clueless about football, but just to be contrary, I'd like to predict a Brazil Croatia draw tonight.

I'll be sitting in front of every match in the tournament anyway, if I want to spend any time at all with my other half over the next few weeks!

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 12-Jun-14 12:01:03

Tegan

We haven't got to guess how many goals have we?

Nope - just who you think will win (or draw) in the fixture(s) each day.

GrannyCaz1 Thu 12-Jun-14 11:41:07

Brazil 2 - Croatia 0

GrannyCaz1 Thu 12-Jun-14 11:40:17

Will be having a go, just a bit of fun x

suebailey1 Thu 12-Jun-14 11:33:09

ooo no not me - can't stand football - shall be deserting DH for the golf course.

annodomini Thu 12-Jun-14 09:52:17

Pass

Brendawymms Thu 12-Jun-14 09:39:35

England will be out early on and all the journalists etc will blame, the weather, tiredness, PMT, the Tories, Scottish independence, the EU, the referees and Uncle Tom Cobley but not the players.

I do not like football and am leaving the country and TV for four weeks to get away from it.

kittylester Thu 12-Jun-14 09:37:24

I think Brazil too Tegan.

Watch out for Belgium! [apparently!!]

Tegan Thu 12-Jun-14 09:28:48

Brazil win [will get more difficult when the Sough American countries play each other]. We haven't got to guess how many goals have we? suebailey; I think you're right about Argentina so I'll go with Argentina to be the ultimate winners. Thinking that some of the African teams could do well and surprise people [I was watching Gary Lineker last night but I had been thinking before that that they wouldn't struggle with the heat in the way that the European teams will]. General opinion seems to be Ivory Coast to do better that their odds.

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 12-Jun-14 09:01:19

suebailey1, annodomini, phoenix and dragonfly1 - are you signing up to play?

Tonight's the first match - Brazil v Croatia (Group A) 9pm ITV football

Those who are playing, post below to let us know who you think will win (or if you think it'll be a draw).

Dragonfly1 Thu 12-Jun-14 08:22:53

grin

Anne58 Thu 12-Jun-14 07:58:46
