So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

I'll say Brazil just to be different !

rubysong Sat 12-Jul-14 11:33:31

Netherlands to win.

kittylester Sat 12-Jul-14 09:48:13

Netherlands certainly - do we get bonus points for the score?

Charleygirl Sat 12-Jul-14 09:21:07

Such a difficult decision, it will have to be the Netherlands to win 5-1.

Will Goldie be back for the final?

rubysong Wed 09-Jul-14 13:28:01

Argentina to win.
The Diary of Anne Frank is set in the Netherlands.

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 13:14:07

My prediction is Netherlands - now I expect them to offer me loads of money to remove my jinx and vote for Argentina!

Maggiemaybe Wed 09-Jul-14 12:27:01

I want to see Germany do all their fancy footwork and then Robben to just walk up to them and punch them on the nose

Tegan grin

Netherlands to win please, because my little grandson is called Robin and they have a Robin and a Robben. I have superior football knowledge.

And The Bobbsey Twins in Tulip Land by Laura Lee Hope was set in Holland, as we always called it back then. I love the Bobbsey Twins, me. smile

Pittcity Wed 09-Jul-14 11:05:14

Tegan I love the England v Paquador sketch too!! football

Pittcity Wed 09-Jul-14 10:41:56

Argentina to win because I saw Ossie Ardiles on the news this morning and I'll always remember him singing "....Tottingham" with Chas and Dave!

"The Honorary Consul" by Graham Greene is set in Northern Argentina as, of course, is much of Ossie Ardiles' autobiography, "Ossie's Dream"

Charleygirl Wed 09-Jul-14 10:41:23

I also would like to see a Germany- Netherlands final. I believe that the final is on both channels, BBC1 and ITV which I think is unfair as many people loathe football

...I want a Germany/Netherlands final. As at the end of the Harry Enfield sketch I want to see Germany do all their fancy footwork and then Robben to just walk up to them and punch them on the nose [I'm not a football hooligan; honest!]....

Charleygirl Wed 09-Jul-14 09:33:46

I Am Rembrandt's Daughter by Lynn Cullen.

The Netherlands to win.

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 09:22:11

'Girl with a Pearl Earring' - Tracy Chevalier

That was easy but the football - no idea. I'll be back later after I have take soundings. grin

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 09-Jul-14 09:01:22

For your bonus point, name a book that's set in the Netherlands or Argentina.

Yes, there are worse things than going out early! I dread to think what the Germans would have done to our team if we'd managed to struggle through to the later stages! blush football

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 06:02:44

Oops! sad

Tegan Tue 08-Jul-14 23:37:40

It was 4:1; Ferdinand didn't play [so I owe him an apology].

Tegan Tue 08-Jul-14 23:34:46

I thought they could have toned down their euphoria at the end a bit though, with so many Brazilians so upset. As for the pundits saying how bad Brazil played [I don't mean 'him who knows' Maggie, but the BBC lot]; didn't we get beat by the German team at the last World Cup rather badly [or rather well if you supported Germany]? I can't remember the score but I recall watching it at my daughters [my second grandson had just been born] and feeling very humiliated. I bet Rio Ferdinand was playing that day as well [just going to do a bit of googling].

Charleygirl Tue 08-Jul-14 23:24:24

Germany were fabulous- did not put a foot wrong.

Maggiemaybe Tue 08-Jul-14 22:55:23

Me too, Tegan. It was so sad to see those little boys in tears. Though I am told by him who knows that the Brazilian team played very badly. sad
