So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

Indeed you are right. Very fine indeed. I think it's just jealousy.

Btw scores from yesterday coming up in a tick together with the updated leaderboard (won't include results from games played already today)

My recipe

Chocolate Roulade - gluten free

175g plain chocolate (Bournville is best!!)
175 caster sugar
6 large eggs, separated
2 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted

300ml double cream
icing sugar

Preheat the oven to 180c, 160 fan, gas 4
Prepare 23cm x 33 cm swiss roll tin by greasing and lining with baking parchment.

Break the chocolate into small pieces into a bowl and stand the bowl over a pan of water over a low heat to melt. When melted allow to cool a little.

I could say be careful not to let the chocolate bowl touch the water etc etc but that's like teaching your granny to suck eggs. grin

Place the caster sugar and egg yolks into a large bowl and whisk until light and creamy - I use my kenwood or an electric whisk. Add the cooled chocolate and stir until blended.

In a separate bowl beat the egg white until stiff but not too dry.

Add the whites and fold in gently along with the cocoa powder.

Spread evenly into the prepared tin and bake for 20 mins or until firm.

Remove from the oven, but leave to cool completely in the tin covered with a dry teatowel.

Whip the cream until it just holds its shape

Dust a large sheet of greaseproof paper with sifted icing sugar and turn out the roulade peeling off the paper. Spread with the cream.

Score a line 1in from one short end then roll up very tightly using the paper to help. It will crack - this is good!!!

At this stage the roulade can be covered and kept in the fridge or frozen.

Dust with sifted icing sugar just before serving.

Enjoy!!

Belgium and Algeria to win

USA and Portugal

Recipe later as we are at DGD's thanksgiving party!

rubysong Sun 22-Jun-14 12:17:23

recipe (better than most of my predictions)
In a bowl over hot water, melt 300g dark chocolate, 150g butter and a tablsp. Golden syrup. Then add 200g broken up digestive biscuits and anything else you fancy, such as raisins, mini marshmallows, nuts (try salted peanuts). Stir it all up and press into an 8" tin lined with cling film. Fridge for a couple of hours and you have a fridge cake (as requested by Prince William at his wedding).

predictions
Belgium/Russia to draw,
Algeria and USA to win.

Charleygirl Sun 22-Jun-14 11:28:28

Nonu would you like a financial advisor?!!! You cannot be too careful with that amount of money.

Nonu Sun 22-Jun-14 11:14:49

I want Croatia to win and I will tell you why, whilst we were away G/S organised a sweep for all family and I was given Croatia.
I stand to win £16, grin.
Don"t know what I will do with all that money, my head will be quite turned. grin

Belgium and Portugal to WIN, South Korea v Algeria DRAW

My favourite Hot Chocolate Recipe ( you can chill it and add ice if you can wait that long!!):
FOR ONE CUP- 250ml milk ( I prefer semi skimmed but you can go full fat)
3oz chocolate ( I prefer 2 oz dark with 10z milk)
pinch of chilli powder

Chop up the chocolate. Warm the milk over medium heat, as soon as you see bubbles turn it off. Add the chocolate and chilli. Whisk until chocolate dissolved. Serve as preferred. Whipped cream and flake optional!!

If you don't like chilli try a pinch of salt - it makes all the difference.
Experiment with flavours. I have added Baileys, cinnamon, coffee and orange rind to mine in the past.

Maggiemaybe Sun 22-Jun-14 10:53:45

I've added a Nigella recipe that I've worshipped from afar - is that allowed? - and that sounds divine, but I've never dared make - it sounds like a heart attack on a plate!

Nigella's chocolate and peanut butter fudge sundae

My predictions for today are:

Belgium to win
South Korea v Algeria draw
USA to win

Charleygirl Sun 22-Jun-14 10:28:49

Win Belgium, Algeria and Portugal.

The chocolate would not be around long enough in this house to be part of a recipe.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 22-Jun-14 10:09:07

I did my predictions at 11:38:21, and now here's my photo of my souvenir cocktail "glass" from Las Vegas. No prizes for guessing which hotel we stayed in! smile

Charleygirl Sat 21-Jun-14 13:47:19

Argentina, Germany and Nigeria to win.

A hideous "Spanish" lady ornament given to me about 45 years ago when we were on holiday in Spain. It has been at the bottom of a wardrobe for that length of time. I must dispose of it NOW! Thanks for the reminder!

rubysong Sat 21-Jun-14 13:13:19

Argentina and Germany to win, Boz & Herz/Nigeria to draw.

Carving of a beautiful lady we brought back from Kenya many years ago.

Pittcity Sat 21-Jun-14 12:55:20

Argentina, Nigeria and Germany to win!!

The photo is of what we thought was Limoncello that we bought in Montenegro (big bottle), but it turns out that it isn't and that I am allergic to it. sad The small bottle is real Italian Limoncello that DD2 bought back from wedding mentioned in my last post. It is going in the freezer now and I will be having a shot this evening..yum!

PS. Castello Doria, Portovenere is in North West Italy not east....must really get round to learning my left from my right!!

kittylester Sat 21-Jun-14 12:50:19

Right

Argentina to win
Nigeria to win
Germany to win

I have a small statue of David that we bought back from our honeymoon in Rome (nearly 44 years ago). I really love it but as it's only 6" high, and most people will have seen the original, it is hardly worth taking a photo!

GigiGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 21-Jun-14 12:16:08

For an extra point today share a picture of something in your house that you brought back from holiday. Preferably from a different country but we will accept a tea towel from Norwich at a push smile And if you can't upload a photo just tell us about it and where it came from.

Good luck everyone!

Maggiemaybe Sat 21-Jun-14 11:38:21

Pittcity Fri 20-Jun-14 14:38:08

Italy (Forza Italia!!) and France to win and Honduras v Ecuador to draw (just to be different!)

DD1 has recently been to a wedding at Castello Doria, Portovenere It is a beautiful 11/12th century defensive castle overlooking the fishing village and sea in the north east of Italy. Photo is one of the views from the castle.

Roquefort-sur-Soulzon in Southern France is well worth a visit for the Cambalou cheese caves and the visitor centre which illustrates the process of making Roquefort cheese and offers guests a chance to sample and purchase the product. In fact the whole region is a foodies delight!

I'm another who has never been to Honduras or Ecuador but can use Google - I would love to see some of the Mayan Temples, such as the ones in Copán,Honduras.

rubysong Fri 20-Jun-14 14:01:56

That should have been La Capilla del Hombre.
(Sorry, that's me swiping and not proof reading)
