World Cup predictions please....

So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

Well done PITT, you deserve it !

Thank you for posting the picture of Christ the Redeamer.

Charleygirl Fri 18-Jul-14 18:40:38

Well deserved.

That sounds lovely Pittcity, what a perfect prize for Summer! sunshine

Pittcity Thu 17-Jul-14 15:43:58

Just been woken from my siesta in the shade to take delivery of my prize - a huge box of wonderful books. Some for me, some for my grandson and a brilliant looking one called "Unbored: The Essential Field Guide to Serious Fun" which will be ideal for DS (aged 13) for the school summer hols.

I did shake them kittylester, so I expect our tickets to be in a separate delivery wink

Pittcity Mon 14-Jul-14 14:58:30

Yes Charleygirl I'm surprised too given that there are a lot of regulars on the forums and there were only a couple of really difficult bonus rounds.

Kittylester I'll put it in the parcel with your tickets to Russia 2018!!

Nonu that's another place I'm adding to my must see list....maybe the prize is a luxury holiday in Rio????

Thanks for the congrats, it was all pure guesswork, my DS gave up advising me after he got it wrong on Day 1 and I got both of the last two matches wrong...

Great fun GNHQ what can we do next?

Nonu Mon 14-Jul-14 13:41:07

That shot of Christ the Redeemer with the sunset behind was just beautiful for mere words !!

smile

Charleygirl Mon 14-Jul-14 13:35:34

Congratulations Pittcity. I am amazed that so few of us took part.

rubysong Mon 14-Jul-14 12:33:11

Congratulations Pittcity on your world cup success. You made lots of very good predictions. Hope you enjoy your prize (whatever it is).

kittylester Mon 14-Jul-14 11:30:21

I'll have it, I need a heavy object to beat SiL about the head! grin

Pittcity Mon 14-Jul-14 11:14:04

Well done pittcity for winning the mystery prize, it was a close one! We'll drop you an email in a sec.

Tegan Mon 14-Jul-14 10:05:28

Errrr. No! Not sure what I felt about last nights game but the best team won. Glad it's over now; the only high spots being seeing Holland play [and even then not all of the time]. And, at least I'll probably recognise more players in the Premiership now.

Tegan Sun 13-Jul-14 21:02:39

I said at the start of the thread that Argentina would be the winners; do I get a bonus point for that if they do win wink.

GigiGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 13-Jul-14 20:10:42

Huge apologies for posting this so late (they have just kicked off blush )

No bonus round...this is the big one.

And a huge thank you to those of you who have taken part, we've really enjoyed reading your predictions and comments throughout the tournament.

(And thank you for those of you who have already given us your predictions for this match)

For anyone who hasn't - there's still time (until the first goal)

Argentina or Germany - Who will be the World Cup winners this year?

Maggiemaybe Sun 13-Jul-14 18:55:39

I think Germany will win, possibly 4-1, though I have nothing to back up that prediction and my track record as a forecaster has been pretty dire!

It's been a long haul, but I've really enjoyed this competition and have learned a lot along the way. I think I can safely say many congratulations to Pittcity and I hope the mystery prize turns out to be something lovely!

Thank you to Gransnet for the entertainment, and cheers to all of us who've lasted the course. wine football wine

kittylester Sun 13-Jul-14 16:55:19

Germany to win tonight!

This has been a long haul but thank you to GN for organising it. wine for all of you!

Nonu Sun 13-Jul-14 14:34:01

I agree Tegan it was a bit dire !
I nodded off , TBH!
grin

Tegan Sun 13-Jul-14 14:22:27

I hope Argentina win although it would be better if Messi was fully fit. Above all I want to see a truly great game; last nights was awful.

Pittcity Sun 13-Jul-14 14:15:28

I'm with ruby Argentina to win! football

rubysong Sun 13-Jul-14 14:12:19

Argentina to win.

Nonu Sun 13-Jul-14 13:38:28

I think I will go for 2 - 1 to Germany !

Fingers crossed

Nonu Sun 13-Jul-14 13:32:03

I fancy Germany , although it is a tough call as they are BOTH good teams !

We are going round to DD"s for a meal later then will watch, so might even suggest a little sweepstake !
grin

Charleygirl Sun 13-Jul-14 12:00:09

Germany to win I think, 3-2. I have never got any of my goal predictions right so why change now?

Maggiemaybe Sat 12-Jul-14 18:21:46

Netherlands for me.
