KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 21-Oct-13 10:46:05

This thread is for the 100 gransnetters who have been chosen to trial No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum.

Here’s what Boots had to say, “No7 is the UK’s leading skincare brand. NEW No7 Restore& Renew Day & Night Serum is specifically formulated for more mature skin and actively targets the five key signs of ageing: wrinkles, lack of firmness, uneven pigmentation, fragility and dull skin. In clinical trials, after four weeks of use, both light-reflecting characteristics and levels of natural moisture return to similar levels of younger skin. New Restore & Renew Day & Night Serum is our fourth clinically proven serum meaning that we have a clinically proven serum for every stage of a woman’s life. We have had great results from our clinical trial and user testing, but we’d love to hear what gransnetters think about the product as well.”

We’d like you to use the product each day and night for at least four weeks, but preferably for the full eight weeks. Feel free to post your feedback on this thread as often as you like while using the serums.

When you're ready please answer the following questions:

Q1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles
· Firmness
· Pigmentation
· Fragility
· Skin’s radiance

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a No7 skincare bundle worth over £100.

Please note, Boots may use any comments posted on this thread in marketing, editorial and/or promotional material so please only post if you are happy with this.

Thanks and good luck,

GNHQ

1.Overall impression:
Liked the idea of different coloured tubes but thought they looked very small to last any length of time.Didn't like the smell of either tube. They smelled of cheap perfume. The creams were smooth to apply and very little was needed for full coverage.
2.Skin change:
No change to lines and wrinkles.
Firmer feel to skin after a couple of weeks.
No change to pigmentation, or fragility.
Slightly more radiance to complexion.
3.Rather expensive for only 5 weeks use.I would only be able to afford it when it was on offer.
4.I would recommend it to someoone if the subject came up.

Thank you for letting me try this new product.

I'm amazed at how long the little tubes have lasted and there's still some left - much better value than I thought at first! I've been pleased with how firm and smooth my skin feels. My worst wrinkles are sort of creases under my eyes (sometimes more like bags!!!) and they're evening out nicely - much less noticeable. Everyone who seems to have noticed any change in my appearance say that I look bright and healthy - that's good enough for me!! I will certainly recommend the serums and I will treat myself to at least another set, so that I can guage the efficacy of prolonged use.

Lizziehop2 Wed 11-Dec-13 15:24:19

Have now finished both tubes of serum and cannot really add any more comments from my 4 week message. Suffice to say that I have just gone out and bought, not just more serum, but everything in the Restore & Renew range! So you have my endorsement and thank you for the chance to try it!
Looking forward to a serum especially for necks - would love to be included in a trial for that too!!

whenim64 Wed 11-Dec-13 15:18:38

Q1: overall impression - I thought the tubes were rather small but was pleasantly surprised that I didn't need to use much, although it only just lasted 4 weeks. It's expensive. Attractive packaging.

Q2: skin changes
· Lines and wrinkles - slight improvement, but I don't have many lines or wrinkles
· Firmness - no noticeable difference
· Pigmentation - I don't have much pigmentation so couldn't comment
· Fragility - I got a few blemishes after a week, but they quickly went and my skin stayed clear
· Skin’s radiance - no noticeable difference, but I don't have sallow skin

Q3. The RRP is £24.95 - I'm unlikely to buy again unless it's on offer or a gift, as nearly £25 a month is too expensive for me. I would if I could afford it.

Q4. Would I recommend? Yes, my friend tried it and she has bought some for herself, and asked her daughter to buy more for Christmas.

Arcadia Wed 11-Dec-13 15:06:49

As a follow-up to my previous posting, I do think there is some slight overall improvement and I may buy the product again. I have cut off the ends of the tubes (as I do with most products which come in this sort of tube) and there is enough left for another 4 or 5 days.

Dee Wed 11-Dec-13 15:02:36

As an update to my previous comments I would agree with the others that the tubes have lasted much longer than expected and so are better value than I first thought.
I have sensitive skin and there has been no adverse reactions. My skin is smoother and even though I've been ill with a nasty virus for 5 weeks I don't look that bad!
Thank you for giving me the chance to try these products. I may use my Boots points to continue.

clara Wed 11-Dec-13 15:01:27

I really have not seen any difference using this new serum compared to the Protect and Perfect I have been using for a long time. I remain unhappy about the slight perfume of the new serum and really prefer the protect and perfect. However I would consider buying these if the price was OK so bottom line for me is, yes I like using a Boots serum but I would buy whichever was best value as they seem to have the same effect for me.

bluemoon Wed 11-Dec-13 15:00:43

Well, as I said before, the serum for day & night felt good on the skin, was absorbed easily & never felt sticky. It improved my neck more than anything.
The price, however, is too high for many of us on a state pension when having to budget, pay higher prices etc.
I would recommend it though.

BarbaraAbbs Thu 05-Dec-13 13:11:50

As Lyndysim says above, I am still using it (very sparingly) and am convinced the fine lines are reduced. And I did put on a bright light and my specs!

Lyndysim Tue 03-Dec-13 20:40:49

Update to my previous message, a few weeks later I think that my fine lines have reduced. (Or is it my eyesight is deteriorating?!)

Elegran Tue 03-Dec-13 18:50:03

My night one was used up faster too, but that was because the night one was upstairs in the ensuite (just loo and basin) and the day one downstairs in the main bathroom with the shower.

They got the same usage to start with, then I damaged my shoulder and finger and was avoiding the shower for a while, just a stand-up wash upstairs in the mornings.

I realised that I had used the night one again in the mornings for over a week. It seemed to work OK.

Revis Tue 03-Dec-13 17:07:57

Just about getting to the end of my supply - why has the night one disappeared more quickly than the day one? I have enjoyed using them and think they made a small difference, particularly to my neck. However I'm not sure I would pay that much for such small amounts. Maybe, if I manage to save lots of points, I might treat myself once in a while.

Flowerofthewest Tue 03-Dec-13 16:36:31

I am amazed that I still have some of the serum in the tubes after about 6 weeks, I use it every morning and night and have not yet succumbed to cutting the end off and scraping out the contents. I will, contrary to what I first said, buy it again. Marvellous stuff.

Grannyknot Mon 02-Dec-13 22:09:52

After 6 weeks of using the products I'm still very happy with the results (as reported after 4 weeks when I answered the questions).

Something that made me chuckle to myself though, after all of us saying that we like the different coloured tubes etc, on the weekend I was rushing to go out and didn't have my specs on, and picked up the pink (night) tube unscrewed the cap and was poking at my lips with it! It's very similar in appearance to my tube of lip gloss ... grin

grandival Mon 02-Dec-13 19:45:08

After several weeks testing the boots products I am surprised by how long two tiny tubes have lasted- they are still going strong so although at first sight the cost may seem expensive it is very good value.
There is a definite improvement in the feel of my skin; it is softer , firmer and, in spite of continued outdoor activities (gardening and walking) not suffering at all from the cold weather and central heating.
As regards the effect on wrinkles I'm really not sure as some seem better and some just the same. At 67 what can you expect?
What I have noticed is that there is no flare up of irritation or spots as often experienced when I use moisturisers. This is extremely unusual and gives me confidence to carry on using the product. My combination skin can be difficult to manage; for example I have found that night time creams used in the past have resulted in unwanted outbreaks but now I finally have found a product which suits. I would recommend these two tiny tubes for confidence building and knowing that there is definitely something I can do to push back the ravages of time!

jayceecee Mon 02-Dec-13 15:36:15

I'm really surprised that there is still serum left in both tubes, I didn't think they would last this long.
Has it made a difference? My mother (86!) commented last week that my skin was looking really good - that's good enough for me. I love the feel of the serum as it goes on, silky and smooth and I also like the smell. My skin feels slightly fimer and small crease around my eyes seem to have reduced slightly. i would buy this product but probably would wait for a special offer, would definately recomment to a friend. Only complaint is that sometimes after applying the day serun my make up does not sit particularly well on top of it and there seems to be a slight residue on my skin.
Also it might be a good idea to make the containers slightly more opaque, like the Protect and Perfect tube so that you can actually see when it's running out.
All in all have thoroughly enjoyed using it and would like to thank you for the opportunity to try it out.

ChrissyW Mon 02-Dec-13 13:13:20

Well it's almost 6 weeks since I started using the serums and I'm pleased to report that I've still got some left in both tubes!

I'm not sure how much difference using the serums has made but my skin is in good condition despite the vagaries of the weather and central heating.

It has been interesting to have the opportunity to review these products and has definitely made me more aware of my daily makeup routine...which in itself is a good thing...so thankyou Gransnet and Boots I remain a loyal follower of both!

Arcadia Sat 30-Nov-13 21:27:05

1) I liked the texture of the serums. They spread easily and were absorbed quickly. However, when using my usual night-time cream afterwards (argan oil), it seemed to dissolve the Boots product, making little balls over the skin. This didn't happen with my daytime cream, Nivea Q10. Would like some advice on how much to use. I used a pea-sized amount but maybe this isn't enough as after about 5-6 weeks there is still some left. Maybe I should have used more and got a better effect. Why doesn't the packaging say how much to use?
2) There were a few small changes. The vertical wrinkles between my upper lip and nose seem slightly diminished, and a small scaly, sun-damage patch on my nose is smoother. However, a small sun-damage smooth darker patch on my forehead is unchanged. On getting up in the morning, my cheeks are almost free of wrinkles but by the end of the day there are several. This makes me think that wrinkles are generated internally and not much affected by surface products. Nonetheless, during the day, I think there is a small improvement in smoothness.
3) I might buy again, but only special offers or reductions.
4) I would tell a friend with fairly unwrinkled skin that the product may well help, but don't think I would say this to someone with deep wrinkles.

Firstly Gransnet, thank you for the opportunity to sample this product.

I found both the day and night Boots Restore and Renew serums easily applied and absorbed without any thick or sticky residue leaving the skin soft to the touch. I particularly liked the white and pink tubes so that they were easy to differentiate between morning and evening use. I have sensitive skin and there were no bad side effects at all so that was a definitive plus.

Unfortunately I did not notice any line or wrinkle improvement(sad)
and slight, if very little, improvement in fragility or firmness although radiance and pigmentation did show slight improvement. I found there was not enough serum to allow me to rub into my neck (bearing in mind the 4 week supply?!)so concentrated on areas of my face.

They would have to be on offer (considerably reduced!) for me to buy more of this product as the tubes are so small for the price currently on sale although I am inclined to follow on for another month to see if there is further improvement to my lines/wrinkles(smile). £25 a month is an awful lot of money to have to fork out on top of moisturisers, although having said that, if it were to have miraculous results, I would be queuing up to buy it! Unfortunately the improvement was not that significant to justify the cost.

I would recommend a friend to try the product but would also be honest with my findings.

Here are my comments regarding Boots no 7 restore and renew.

Q1 :My overall impressions
I like the day and night tubes being different colours, that was a stroke of genius. I also liked the smell.

Q2 :After using for 4 weeks
I thought my skin looked smoother, it certainly felt softer and feels as though it should be brighter I'm not sure it is.

Q3 :Would I buy the product
I would love to buy this product, I think the price is very reasonable, it looks, smells and feels like a more expensive cream.

Q4 :Would I recommend to a friend
Certainly would, think it great, one of the best products I've used recently.

Thank you for the opportunity to take part in the trial, I've enjoyed it

I have now reached the end of week 7 so I thought I would answer the questions.

Q1 What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?
The two tubes one darker than the other is a clever idea. You don't get them muddled up. The serum itself goes on so smoothly and is very silky to the touch.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles - I see little if any change.
· Firmness - no firmness in fact the skin is softer maybe thats why there is no chang to wrinkles.
· Pigmentation - no change
· Fragility - don't know what you are asking here
· Skin’s radiance - my skin is certainly soft and looks good but it did before I started the test

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I wouldn't buy the product at the current price because it doesn't do what it claims. If it made a difference to wrinkles I might consider it.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it but with reservations.

Thank you for allowing me to take part in the test it has been really interesting. I might get another few days out of the tubes.

tiller30 Thu 28-Nov-13 20:48:43

I have finished the serums and now I will answer your set questions.
Thank you for the chance to take part.

1.I am impressed with the serums, the tube designs are well thought out and the serum is very pleasant to use the slight perfume and cooling feel on contact with the skin is a treat!

2. Changes ; My wrinkles and lines seem less deep around my nose and mouth.
Firmness possibly around my eyes and on my neck.
Pigmentation ,an age mark has faded.
Fragility ? no
Skin radiance,my daughter commented but I did not use in excess on my cheeks as the skin is sensitive there (is that your meaning of fragility?)

3.The price is too high for me to buy on a regular basis.
It will be on voucher days and birthday/xmas time.

4.I would recommend the product.
If someone can afford to buy it for the rest of their lives they will have the most amazing skin.

Thank you again.

georgiesnana Thu 28-Nov-13 14:39:19

After using the serum for approx. 4 weeks -I am impressed by the cool feel of the serum and easy application

My skin is certainly softer and more radiant but the fine lines are still there but feel sure that with continued use they will reduce.

The cost of the serum is fine - and I would purchase more to continue with the regime.

I have already recommended the serum to a friend.

Hope this is helpful

Elegran Thu 28-Nov-13 12:10:37

My tubes stood up OK. I thought the large cap was a good feature as it allowed that.

Dee Thu 28-Nov-13 03:06:11

Q1
The tubes were easily distinguishable but didn't stand up properly which was annoying. Both serums glided on to the skin easily and absorbed well.
Q2
I've had a nasty virus the whole time I've been testing this product and have not felt or looked my best. Even so my skin is firmer and my brown spots have lessened. I haven't noticed a reduction of wrinkles but am not particularly wrinkly anyway.
Q3
I can't afford to pay £24.95 on a regular basis for a skin product so, whilst it was a treat to be able to use the serums I won't be continuing.
Q4
I don't really have conversations with friends about skin care but I would recommend these products if it came up
