I'm glad your little grandchild is recovering now. You did the right thing.

Thanks thatbags there were so many mixed emotions and disappointments. It is the second holiday they have lost due to the little one's illness. They gave the first holiday away to a friend and as this one was only 2 nights they can't insure themselves.

I'm sure the row your DiL and DS had was really due to their disappointment rather than your decision. You did the right thing and they both knew that really.

It's tough when you have young children - my DD and SiL went out for a meal at the weekend to celebrate their 10th anniversary and it was the first time that they've managed to go for an evening out together for three years!! There's always been one or other of their DCs who was poorly at the last minute every time they've planned something!

I'm so glad the little one is better now, but sorry for the difficult situation you were in. Taking care of poorly grandchildren can be a huge responsibility, so it's good that you were honest about your own feelings. Glad your daughter in law came round too - she would have had a miserable time worrying about the little one if she had gone, I expect.

I have thought more than once could we have coped? However he was hysterical two of the nights when we were bathing and putting him to bed. My DinL said that taking off his clothes and nappy was what the nurses did before giving him suppositories and she thinks he thought we were going to do that.

On the positive side I have just received a short video of him and his older brother rolling about the bed hooping and hollering. What a difference a few days make.

You definitely did the right things - poorly children need Mum. It is a shame they missed their break of course, but you were right and I am glad that he is well now. The argument was not your fault - just the product of their disappointment.

I do know how difficult it is when something you say or do triggers a difference of opinion between your children and their partners - it is uncomfortable, but inevitable now and then. Do not feel bad about it.

Glad it all ended well. You were right of course to say what you did. Parents should always be with sick children and just imagine if anything serious had happened.

You did the right thing, NanKate. It was a shame they missed their weekend, but better that they were there for the little one in case he had a relapse or got very upset and wanted mummy. They would have been anxious and not really enjoyed themselves much anyway.
DC have had to cancel plans when DGC have been ill more than once.
We didn't have a weekend away without the DC until the oldest was 15 but things seem different now.

My eldest daughter went out for the evening with SIL locally and myself and younger daughter looked after twin GD,s . one twin became poorly during the evening and as she was crying and distressed and wanted Mummy we phoned Mummy and she came home early. Twin2 was very pleased to see her and cuddled in and was calm quickly and we were glad Mummy wasn't further away. It's a shame your family were disappointed but you definitely did the right thing especially since there was previous hospitalisation
