I can't even remember. It must be years and years. He does bring me tea in bed most mornings though so I mustn't complain. Unless we're having an argument wink. But I do miss the flowers... Are your OH's prone to romantic gestures?

Yes, not regularly as such, in fact two days ago he came home with a very pretty plant in a pot. He usually buys them in the winter, he knows how much I miss seeing the garden in flower.

Come to think of it, I haven't had any in a long while
Must be going wrong somewhere

Teetime hope you are better now, it's horrible!

felice grin also sad

I dont actually like flowers that much, so he knows not to bother.
I suppose I like them more than I used to.

On Saturday when I was languishing on the sofa with yet anther bout of labyrynthitis! Beautiful big bunch of pink lilies - my favourite. smile

I once carried a really huge bunch of flowers from Brussels to Scotland to my Mother, it was the days before the low cost airlines so the attendants on the flight were wonderful, although I think the Taxi driver in Scotland thought I was mad. They filled 5 vases in the sitting room she loves flowers.
The following day when a friend of hers was admiring them and asked where they came from she said ' I cannot remember, a lot of people give me flowers. Last time ever.

My DH buys me flowers regularly - I hope that doesn't sound yukky! He knows I like to have flowers in the house and he has always picked some up when he is out shopping. Now I usually choose my own but he always says 'let me give you the money for those'. Not exactly romantic but the thought is there bless him.

DH does buy me chocolates (Green and Blacks) randomly and at Christmas (posh ones). But cut flowers? I think 1989 when I was in hospital after a back operation.

Coolgran65 Thu 10-Sept-15 22:07:28

Every birthday, Valentine's and anniversary.
Definitely less is more, I tell him to go to M & S ....but he always has them delivered from our local florist...who sings happy birthday to me (on my birthday)

Judthepud2 Thu 10-Sept-15 22:06:11

Aww, it seems that most British men aren't exactly Mr Romantic.Men are from Mars as we well know, and what goes on in their heads is a mystery.

He brought flowers to the hospital when first baby was born, in 1963,..........zipped up in a shopping bag so nobody would see him carrying flowers! The next time was on our silver wedding, in 1988. That was also the last time!

Eleanorre Thu 10-Sept-15 18:44:22

He knows I would not like to receive them , give me flowers in the garden any day .

ninathenana Thu 10-Sept-15 17:34:13

DH buys flowers for my birthday and anniversaries these are specially prepared bouquets. I've asked him not too but he says he likes spoiling me smile He also randomly comes home from town with a simple bunch from the florist, he did this two weeks ago. I so love that man.

loopylou Thu 10-Sept-15 17:32:34

So long ago I can't remember sad
Dd and DS always bring flowers when they visit, which I love.
I tend to occasionally treat myself but always have orchids and other houseplants growing.

Rowantree Thu 10-Sept-15 17:12:47

DH brought a yucca plant into the hospital when he visited after the Caesarean birth of our elder daughter (1981) (at which he was present :-) )

Prior to that....erm...a box of chocs when I was in hospital after miscarrying our first baby (1980). He then spoiled it by telling me his mother told him to do it - couldn't bear to take the credit for it when it wasn't deserved!

And prior to that....an extremely large fresh cod in a binliner.

sigh

OH knows I dislike shop bought flowers. We always have flowers all around the house either from wild meadows or the garden- and in winter I will have pot plants- so it's been a very long time.

Envious Thu 10-Sept-15 16:31:09

I secretly like having fresh flowers given to me by OH but it's over shadowed by the thought of the expense and lack of places I can put them to keep my cat from chewing on them. I don't even have a fireplace mantel anymore.OH has often asked in stores if I'd like some but I always say no. sad

MargaretX Thu 10-Sept-15 15:58:33

I buy mine myself or cut from the garden( which he has planted)

When I got engaged someone said I should put a penny in a jam jar every time my husband-to-be told me he loved me and then after marriage I should take a penny out when those magic words were spoken.

Apparently there will always be money left but I don't know, I didn't do it.

Luckygirl Thu 10-Sept-15 15:57:34

Every birthday and valentine's. He found out he could order them online and he was so pleased with himself that he does it every time - lord knows what it costs us!!

Gagagran Thu 10-Sept-15 15:34:23

I had some for my birthday at the end of August and before that for our Golden Wedding Anniversary in July. I love almost all flowers but really dislike American Spray chrysanths. My Mum always called them funeral flowers which has stuck in my mind.

PRINTMISS Thu 10-Sept-15 15:33:09

I do not like cut flowers, I know they are grown specially by nurseries for cutting, but I always think it is a shame to cut a growing flower, when they look so lovely in the garden. I do occasionally enjoy the gift of a pot plant which is fine, especially if I can put it in the garden at a later time. For our 50th anniversary, I was presented with an entire tub.

kittylester Thu 10-Sept-15 15:21:55

Teetime, I always have a vase of flowers on a Chester drawers (!!) in the hall, usually in one colour but very occasionally 2. They are often lilies! The one time I asked DH to buy them, he came back with 2 bunches of 'mixed' flowers. The florist told me they had spent ages trying to persuade him that we always have just the one sort but he insisted that I'd love some 'jolly' ones.

Smileless2012 Thu 10-Sept-15 14:43:14

6 days ago for our 35th wedding anniversary. DH is quite romantic and I love it when he comes home from work with a surprise bunch, it's lovely to know he must have been thinking of me which prompted him to buy them.

Never had them for an apology though, but have had lovely cards to say sorrysmile.

hildajenniJ Thu 10-Sept-15 14:31:41

Not as often as he used to. We always had vases of flowers in the house when the DC were still at home.
