Women putting a ring on it

But left on your own with a five year old and a three year old and the house was in his name so you are homeless. Young women do rebuild their lives but they are having children later . They need the legal protection which marriage brings.

Well yes- but surely it is better for the partner to walk away, than to stay in a relationship without love, because of the legal paperwork involved??? I'd much rather be left on my own at 40 and rebuild my life, with or without a man... than a loveless marriage forever!

I have known of more than one case where a couple lived together for years, she hoping they may have a family one day before too long; suddenly the man has gone off with a younger girl, married and started a family whilst the woman has been left at nearly 40, bereft and with biological clock ticking.

I know it can happen if a couple is married, but it is so easy to just walk away if the union is not legalised.

I think it's for when people split up or die and have shared finances or mortgages . Money gets complicated.

I really do not see why anyone gets married these days - I just cant see the point legally, fiscally or emotionally.

I see the point.

Trouble is, and here my experience is very limited, in the instance I know of, the woman chased and chased the man. They got married. I was concerned from the start.
Sure enough, about 5 years down the line [no children] the man announces that they are going to seperate and he never did love her.
All very sad.

In my opinion, as the article says, the woman can sometimes be ahead of the man in the loving stakes.
And I think that generally, the man needs to be the one to "put the ring on it".

Agree though that the woman shouldnt hang around forever if it isnt happening.

Here is an article and comments from New Zealand wondering why women don't usually propose marriage.
