The end of a 40 year relationship.

Well done Phoenix ! My Mr P gave up 10 years ago , having been an 80 a day man. He now has the zeal of the convert regarding the habit . He used patches as vaping not around then. Just as well he gave up really, cannot imagine the cost of 80 a day at today's prices! Keep up the good work

Congratulations Phoenix, my DH smoked for 44 years, started when he was 16 and he gave them up 10 years ago.

I was and continue to be so proud of him, he did it all by himself, just one day out of the blue.

I know someone who went through the Argos catalogue and priced everything she fancied in its equivalent in packets of fags!
Whenever she had a notion ( a much less scary word than craving) for a cig, she'd just leaf through the book.

They tell me grapefruit juice helps take away notions, as does mouthwash kept in the fridge.

Still abstaining, although do get the odd "fancy" but just refuse to go into a shop and pay that amount of money.

Bumped into my semi-retired GP & his wife in Morrisons today, he too has had an ongoing battle with the dreaded weed plus he also struggles with his weight! (So lovely to have a "human" GP!) He was really chuffed for both Mr P & I, and confessed that he too is on the vape thing!

Getting ridiculously excited about trying my new caramel flavour liquid!

A bit of an update!

4 weeks last Friday, still abstaining (although using the vape thing) and apart from the other benefits, it would seem that I have "saved" about £200!

This was especially tested last week, a social event, part of which was outdoors with other people smoking. It smelled awful!
I was quite happy to use my vape, which at the time was filled with a mixture of Columbian Coffee and chocolate cream!

I've just made the connection with the bowels thread as well. That explains why my dad always boasted he was as regular as clockwork.....He smoked a pipe!!

Excellent phoenix so pleased for you. It may be the answer to your problem though concerning going to the loo. I used to have a cigarette and go easier so maybe you stopping has altered your bowels. Just a thought.

I was so breathless that I was smoking and thought "if I take another drag I'm not going to be able to breath at all" so it went out and I've not had one for over 18 months. A woman asked me for a light the other day and I could say to her "no, sorry, I don't smoke" it felt fantastic. I do now hate the smell of smoke, and stand away from any smokers.

You keep going, both of you, you are doing so well.

Only just read this thread-many congratulations Phoenix. I am thrilled for you. I have seen many folks give up and how hard it is-I understand it's as difficult to give up as heroin. So well done you.
DH and I have seen first hand the damage it does; all our parents suffered in different ways because of it, absolutely awful. So good for you.
If I see youngsters smoking-and I can speak to them-I always tell them to give it up while they have an easy choice and how I held my dear Mum's hand as she drowned to death in her own bed.
But we have a dear BIL and SIL who cannot/will not give up; BIL now very ill and on oxygen and SIL so broke it's not true yet let's all this money go up in smoke.

Well done Phoenix! It was on the News this morning that The Royal College of Physicians has given its full approval to vaping as a safe way of quitting smoking. I am nearly at the 3 months mark over switching to vaping overnight. I have not craved a cig at all during that time, and find vaping really satisfying and would recommend it to anyone trying to give up smoking! Such lovely flavours, and no horrible taste or smell. As a side effect, I have, almost without realising, stopped my packet a day of sugar free mints, which I always sucked after a cig, and which contain the dreaded aspartame.

I´m 71, my wife 69, we are both retired and living confortably. Our sex life is declining since I developed ED since some 4/5 year ago. At first we tried to go around the problem developing our own method as my wife has allways been very intense , but as the time passed she seems to be uninterested in sex. I´m not sure that this is the right place to discuss is the matter. This is my first post and I ask any advice or redirection. Thanks

Hello Bridges and welcome, I understand your post, and feel for you, but this thread was actually about giving up smoking, so you might want to try again, perhaps starting your own thread? I think I might be one that contributes to it.
