After 48 years I can still learn something new about DH

A few days ago we were watching a quiz programme and Hank Marvin's real name was mentioned. I can't remember what it was but I remarked to DH that most pop star's real names were usually changed to something well 'ard like Billy Fury and Rory Storm.

DH was a bit quiet for a moment then muttered, 'I've never told you what mine was have I?' shock shock

I knew he sang with a couple of mates who played guitar when he was at Agricultural College. Probably Elvis and Cliff stuff which is his karaoke speciality but I didn't realise he had a 'stage name' [impressed emoticon]

After a lot of threatening cajoling I managed to get it out of him.......Ricky Livid!!!! grin grin grin

Whoever chose it must have been looking into a crystal ball. grin

Haha Merlot yes, that sounds well 'ard ( if a bit funny) still, at least he had a stage name, more than most of us can say.grin

My friends know me as Polly Esther, which is a take on from Polly Styrene, a punk singer of the I970s.

I'm glad you clarified that gk I was worried that MrMerlot might have been one of Larry Parnes' protégées.
He gave them stage names (Marty Wilde, Billy Fury, Vince Eager) to reflect what he thought they might have been like in bed shockshock

Reminds me of my working days running a regional branch of a well known broadcasting charity. One year one of our fundraiser groups was Dicky Heart and the Pacemakers !smile
