Oh, Shalene, how awful for all involved, including the mum, who is clearly ill!
There's a silver lining here, IMO, and that is that her meltdown is leading to an emergency evaluation. For now, hopefully, the medication will prevent her from doing any further harm. But the boy should not be left alone w/ her, IMO, anyhow, and I'm glad you're trying to rehome the puppy (if only it were that easy w/ the child). If she ever happens to have another meltdown, then I think the GS should be removed from the room the minute it starts. But I realize you're not there, so not much you can do about this.
If the evaluation shows that, among other things, she's a danger to her child, I doubt they'll be allowed to just up and move. Social Services will become involved, surely. Perhaps your aunt will even be called upon to take care of GS for now. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.
