This is news to me. I thought the Queen only sent cards for major birthdays but apparently she sends them for major wedding anniversaries too. 60 years, 70 years etc.

Yes I did know this but apparently Buck House has to be told about it quite far in advance and you have to send documentary proof of course

Yes she does.
My D arranged for my H and I to receive one, so now somewhere in a cupboard, I have that, plus the one my mother received on her 100th birthday.

My grandparents got one, decades ago

Does she send golden wedding anniversary ones?

annsixty Tue 14-Jan-20 10:27:29

I don’t think so .

My lovely neighbours received one last year for their diamond anniversary. Their daughter did the paperwork.
I have the telegram version my grandparents received in 1986. I know my aunt had to get a new marriage certificate for them as theirs had been lost.

Yes, she’s been doing it for ages. Do you think she sent herself and Philip one?

The Queen also sends cards for 65th anniversaries. An elderly couple I know received both 60th and 65th. Sadly he died recently just before their 66th anniversary.

My parents got one for their 70th anniversary. I had to ring the palace and arrange this up to 6 months in advance.

So far I've arranged 50th, 60th and 65th cards from the Queen for my Mum and Dad's anniversaries. Buckingham Palace require a couple of month's notice and it can all be arranged online.

For the 50th anniversary I actually spoke to someone in the office at BP and they arranged for the card to be delivered to the ship that Mum and Dad were on for their celebration, which the Captain then read out at dinner. Some wonderful memories for them both.

We unlocked a skeleton in the cupboard when we tried to get one for DH’s parents 60th. Turned out they were married a year later than than we had always been led to believe .
I’ll leave you to your own conclusions.

Thanks OP. I've checked the website and you can't apply online until 5 weeks before the anniversary. It's my parents' 60th later this year so I will apply.

It made me smile as I'd just been talking to DD2 about her netball umpiring.

I arranged one for my parents for their 60th WA. It gave great pleasure to my Mum, who framed it and hung in pride of place. She pointed it out to everyone and always said "The Queen has such good taste in cards" - as if HM had popped down to the nearest card shop to choose!

I planned to arrange another for their 70th WA but sadly Dad died 6 months prior to that.

Yes, I knew this. I ordered one for my parents 60th a few years ago. Lovely card.
