Why not ring DDiL as you say you have a good relationship, and suggest taking the family out for a meal, or if the parents are too busy to come, just the children to give the parents a break? You should be able to judge by her reaction if there is anything going on, or if they just have other priorities.

I have one son who will come up with all sorts of excuses not to see us for months, and then a text will pop up suggesting we get together. I just have to accept it!

As a family we have stuck to all the lockdown rules and saw our younger 2 (aged 6 & 8) granddaughters 3 times outside when allowed. Now that we are almost in the clear we have heard nothing from our oldest son(father of the 3 girls). Of course we want to meet up again- they live 15 miles away but when we met up at half term his wife ( with whom we have always had a good relationship) hinted that they were far too busy to see us. We use to meet the girls from school once a week and have really missed them in the past 17 months. Should I just be patient and trust they will contact us. This son has always been unemotional and doesn't acknowledge emotion in anyone else. In the meantime I am getting quite anxious about all. The little girls have two half sisters, aged 23 and 20 whom we have seen more often this past 18 months but one has asked her Dad(our son) if she can go to hos house to meet the little ones but he hasn't replied. Is this our problem or our son's - am I underestimating the effect lockdown has had on them?
