I would like to get a divorce having been apart for 14 years. It will not be at all complicated and we are on good terms. I would like to be able to get a divorce without too much expense. Has anyone got any suggestions please and thanks in advance.

We did it online, cheap easy and straightforward. It costs £59, if you do it this way make sure you are on the gov website. there are a lot of sites that charge extra unnecessarily.

That is £593, not £59.

I did it myself, without a solicitor and didn't have any problems.

Dd did it online. She is on benefits so cost very little. It tells you on gov site the costs. (Thank goodness no children involved no property and he was very controlling).

I need to help my Son get a divorce. Is the Gov.uk route the best way

Gov site re divorce is good where no property or children are involved. Go online and have a look at what it involves lots of necessary info on your here.

If children are involved or the parties don’t agree a financial split your son needs to see a solicitor Phillips.

DD did a diy divorce. Lots of forms and a visit to the local law courts. They had a child together but there was no way her ex would ever have contributed to his upkeep so she didn’t ask for financial support. He lived abroad and so visitation rights were no problem. He was not interested in seeing his child sadly and has never even sent birthday or Christmas gifts.

I did my own divorce, some years ago now. There were no children or property involved so it was very easy.
I simply went to the local courthouse to get the forms, filled them out, we both signed them and sent them back.
Divorce duly granted. The cost was £140 . I bet it's more now.

MissOops is having a nightmare trying to sort her divorce out, separated for a long time, but has no idea where he lives, his Parents refuse to forward her letters on to him, not quite sure what stage she is at at the moment, but it’s costing her a lot of money.

Has her solicitor not suggesting instructing an enquiry agent?

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 25-Apr-23 20:00:56

Germanshepherdsmum yes, that’s why it’s costing so much more.

I did it the diy way and it was straightforward enough. There was no property involved and (thank Heavens) no children.
