Here’s what Dettol have to say: “Whilst Dettol started by preventing infection and sickness in hospitals in the UK, our brand’s mission was always much bigger. Our range of Dettol Surface Cleansers kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses and can be used all over the home. Available in a range of formats such as trigger spray as well as surface or floor wipes.”

As the first sign of a cold have drop of oil of oregano diluted in a drink (it's really strong). I work with small children and since I started using this am rarely ill with colds or flu.

Taking COLLOIDAL SILVER regularly during cold or flu season often prevents colds and flu altogether.
Taking Colloidal Silver at the very first sign of a cold or flu often knocks the budding infection out within just one or two days. It is a natural remedy that's highly effective, I always use it!

Wash your hands, especially before eating, and I take selenium to boost my immune system. Finally eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, and keep hydrated with plenty of fluids. I do all this and #touchwood have not had a bad cold for a few years now.

My grandfather used to sleep with an onion under his pillow as he reckoned would keep the colds and flu away.So I have read, onions do in fact have antiseptic properties so he may well have been right.

I think it's impossible to avoid every bug and we need to be exposed to some bacteria to build up a healthy immune system. I do, however, carry a little bottle of anti-bac in my bag when out and about and give my hands a little clean if I've been on the bus, public toilets etc where my hands may have touched things that really are less than clean in cold and flu season.

If I start feeling a cold coming on then cups of bovril laced with Cayenne Pepper really help clear my head and keep it at bay.

I take vitamin C over winter and ecanacia tablets to prevent cold and flu as both are supposed to boost your immune system and I think health comes from within.

naomi007 Fri 09-Dec-16 16:59:20

I think washing hands is the single greatest thing you can encourage children to do as a preventative measure against illness.

maryandbuzz1 Fri 09-Dec-16 16:58:31

Don't Touch Your Face
Cold and flu viruses enter your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth.

kamoc Fri 09-Dec-16 16:49:31

try and keep away from people who are sick or showing signs of the cold

hdh74 Fri 09-Dec-16 16:45:06

Wash hands regualarly, eat healthily, and we swear by elderberry extract to cut any cold or flu down to size fast.

caocao Fri 09-Dec-16 16:37:06

I have found Vicks First Defence Spray quite effective if you use it immediately you feel the first symptoms of a cold.

tintoys Fri 09-Dec-16 16:37:03

My dad always said theres no cure for a cold, you need a brisk walk. I dont say you always feel like it, but often you feel less stuffy with some fresh air. But make sure hand wash is a must

finleypop Fri 09-Dec-16 16:11:24

Keep anti bacterial gel in your bag & use it regularly. If you go to a hotel, wipe down surfaces with anti bacterial wipes, especially door handles & TV remotes

lornajk Fri 09-Dec-16 16:11:11

Washing hands often is surely a given whether you have a cold or not? There is not a lot you can do to avoid colds completely, but a healthy diet for me definitely helps. I like to think that's the reason I don't get that many!

mrspea Fri 09-Dec-16 16:04:51

I have lemon in hot water every morning without fail, and it seems to keep me fighting fit.

purpleskull Fri 09-Dec-16 15:59:01

Make sure any kids that visit your house know to wash their hands and sneeze or cough onto a tissue.

stefalfie11 Fri 09-Dec-16 15:55:16

I carry a small bottle of antibac gel in my handbag that I use regularly and I try to encorporate as much garlic in my diet as possible.
