We all know the blissful feeling of having a spare hour or two of precious me-time to do the things that make us feel good. While some might feel productive and get a few tasks done around the house, others may prefer to cook up a storm in the kitchen, have a coffee and a cake with friends or just do nothing in peace and quiet. With this in mind, McCarthy and Stone would like to know how you like to spend your spare time.

Here’s what McCarthy & Stone have to say: “At McCarthy & Stone we offer much more than bricks and mortar, we offer a lifestyle, somewhere you can feel safe and secure, make friends and socialise, enjoy the outdoors and have easy access to local amenities like shops, pubs and restaurants. From rural retreats and seaside living, to vibrant city centres and tranquil suburbs, our developments offer something for every taste.

With over 40 years’ experience of building tight-knit retirement communities, you can be confident that we can help find the perfect environment for you. Right now we’re offering to pay up to 100% of your service charge for up to 8 years* or give you 2 months’ rent free* on selected properties, don’t miss out this is a strictly time limited offer.”

*Terms and conditions apply

So, we are asking you: How do you love using your spare time? Do you prefer to keep an active mind and body, or prefer to indulge in leisurely activities to relax? Perhaps you love to go out in nature or maybe you prefer to wander around the high street and visit your favourite shops and restaurants nearby? Is there plenty of choice of things to do to occupy your spare time where you live? How important is it to you to be near to family and friends, and how do you share your spare time with them?

Whatever you do to keep yourself busy when you’ve got a spare hour or two, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Hubby and I revel in the peace and quiet retirement has brought us after a hectic life balancing family life with careers where we often were like ships passing in the night. Pre-Covid we went for a daily gym and swim but have replaced that with equally enjoyable daily walks and cycle rides on the quiet farm tracks and lanes around our village. OH grows lots of fruit, vegetables and flowers which keep him busy whereas I love entering competitions to boost the pension and spoil the grandchildren. We are both avid readers too. Spare time? We don't have any!

I enjoy knitting but have found a problem getting wool since lockdown! I have decided to be super organised for Christmas this year and have already started planning!

I love walking & playing with my dog & I take lots of photos of him too,I just love spending time with him he's so loveable. I do a few competitions because it's nice to have something to look forward to in the post sometimes instead of just boring old bills & junk mail. I like to bake & cook, not fancy showstopper stuff though just tasty good food & I potter about in my little garden when the weather is good enough. I used to read a lot but not so much these days, can't seem to fit it in!

Generally, I would normally spend hours on the phone with a couple of friends from school, however, since this virus and also since losing my brother to a road traffice accident, they have disappeared....My time is now spent watching a movie or watching a reality tv show from Australia during the week and comparing notes with a relative.

DUDY Tue 15-Sept-20 22:05:38

I have a season ticket so love going to watch my football team play in my spare time.
Also love losing myself in a book. I have been known to still be reading in the early hours of the morning if the story captures my imagination!

hopezibah Tue 15-Sept-20 22:32:39

Reading, countryside walks, baking - that would be my top three. It's got to be a good book though to keep my attention - otherwise it feels like a waste of time!

TwiddleDee Tue 15-Sept-20 23:27:18

When I have free time I like to pamper myself with skin and hair treatments, have bubble baths, read good books and watch good movies.

I'm finally learning how to play guitar. It absorbs me fully. I'm going through some Beatles classics and working up to Fleetwood Mac. It's hard but I love it.
