We all know the blissful feeling of having a spare hour or two of precious me-time to do the things that make us feel good. While some might feel productive and get a few tasks done around the house, others may prefer to cook up a storm in the kitchen, have a coffee and a cake with friends or just do nothing in peace and quiet. With this in mind, McCarthy and Stone would like to know how you like to spend your spare time.

Here’s what McCarthy & Stone have to say: “At McCarthy & Stone we offer much more than bricks and mortar, we offer a lifestyle, somewhere you can feel safe and secure, make friends and socialise, enjoy the outdoors and have easy access to local amenities like shops, pubs and restaurants. From rural retreats and seaside living, to vibrant city centres and tranquil suburbs, our developments offer something for every taste.

With over 40 years’ experience of building tight-knit retirement communities, you can be confident that we can help find the perfect environment for you. Right now we’re offering to pay up to 100% of your service charge for up to 8 years* or give you 2 months’ rent free* on selected properties, don’t miss out this is a strictly time limited offer.”

*Terms and conditions apply

So, we are asking you: How do you love using your spare time? Do you prefer to keep an active mind and body, or prefer to indulge in leisurely activities to relax? Perhaps you love to go out in nature or maybe you prefer to wander around the high street and visit your favourite shops and restaurants nearby? Is there plenty of choice of things to do to occupy your spare time where you live? How important is it to you to be near to family and friends, and how do you share your spare time with them?

Whatever you do to keep yourself busy when you’ve got a spare hour or two, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I have mobility problems so tend to spend a lot of time at home.. I enjoy crosswords, sudoku and other word games. I keep in touch with family and friends via the internet. I enjoy knitting but have found a problem getting wool since lockdown! I have decided to be super organised for Christmas this year and have already started planning!

Hubby and I revel in the peace and quiet retirement has brought us after a hectic life balancing family life with careers where we often were like ships passing in the night. Pre-Covid we went for a daily gym and swim but have replaced that with equally enjoyable daily walks and cycle rides on the quiet farm tracks and lanes around our village. OH grows lots of fruit, vegetables and flowers which keep him busy whereas I love entering competitions to boost the pension and spoil the grandchildren. We are both avid readers too. Spare time? We don't have any!

A walk to the cliff top and down the path to the bottom (and along the beach if the tide is out - has to be wet sand!), see how fast I can walk back up, a rest and drink at the top, then home - bliss.

Love being out in the garden, weve planted loads this year both flowers and edible, so I can loose myself in the garden for an hour or two

During lockdown I have discovered the pleasure of escaping from it all for an hour or two and having some lovely walks in and around my home town. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful area of the countryside and have discovered so many walks I never knew about before. It clears the mind and and is good for my physical health.

I enjoy going to our nearest retirement education centre and taking classes there - since Covid, they have moved on-line. I am taking a new language, and ancient history courses. I also enjoy learning the piano (by face-time at the moment).
I research my family history and enjoy making scrap-books. I like baking, do voluntary work and a a member of our local community ladies' groups.
Never a dull moment! I love retirement. In between, we walk and eat out with friends.
