We all know the blissful feeling of having a spare hour or two of precious me-time to do the things that make us feel good. While some might feel productive and get a few tasks done around the house, others may prefer to cook up a storm in the kitchen, have a coffee and a cake with friends or just do nothing in peace and quiet. With this in mind, McCarthy and Stone would like to know how you like to spend your spare time.

Here’s what McCarthy & Stone have to say: “At McCarthy & Stone we offer much more than bricks and mortar, we offer a lifestyle, somewhere you can feel safe and secure, make friends and socialise, enjoy the outdoors and have easy access to local amenities like shops, pubs and restaurants. From rural retreats and seaside living, to vibrant city centres and tranquil suburbs, our developments offer something for every taste.

With over 40 years’ experience of building tight-knit retirement communities, you can be confident that we can help find the perfect environment for you. Right now we’re offering to pay up to 100% of your service charge for up to 8 years* or give you 2 months’ rent free* on selected properties, don’t miss out this is a strictly time limited offer.”

*Terms and conditions apply

So, we are asking you: How do you love using your spare time? Do you prefer to keep an active mind and body, or prefer to indulge in leisurely activities to relax? Perhaps you love to go out in nature or maybe you prefer to wander around the high street and visit your favourite shops and restaurants nearby? Is there plenty of choice of things to do to occupy your spare time where you live? How important is it to you to be near to family and friends, and how do you share your spare time with them?

Whatever you do to keep yourself busy when you’ve got a spare hour or two, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

It varies between productive activities in the home and garden, or a nice realaxing movie session!

M00se Sun 06-Sept-20 19:10:17

I like to spend my time reading. Or watching films.

nikhop90 Sun 06-Sept-20 19:11:15

I love to garden - I have been growing my own fruit & veg so the spring/summer months have been busy! I will start planning now for next spring

Reading and jigging are my indoor pleasures along with working out daily on a bike at home (since Covid). I enjoy walking be it in local green space or in my high street and now with theatres out of the picture my children have converted me to Netflix which I find far superior to terrestrial and Freeview channels in terms of content.

chloe96 Sun 06-Sept-20 19:51:32

ive enjoyed watching more catchup tv

redfox5 Sun 06-Sept-20 19:52:48

At the moment because I cannot go out I’m sorting all my books, DVDs and CDs to create space something I don’t normally have time for because I’m so busy doing other things.

When I am not working
I love spending time with my grandkids.
I like to Craft I never buy cards, I always make card that people often frame.
I also up recycle items that I find fly tipped, then sell them I do this because I love the challenge but also because everything I save is given a new life and is one less item to go into land fill. I have just turned and old cat scratcher into a funky coffee table that sold for £70. I give a donation to environmental charities so its win win.
I love nature and bird watching and spend time gardening. I love to bake too. Also I have a new love; in lockdown I took up running and dancing. Don’t watch much tv.

I read - I can lose myself in a great fiction book and forget about any worries I have

boo2410 Sun 06-Sept-20 20:44:54

A long walk with my dog, pottering in the garden or a long soak in the bath with a good book. I can always find something to do if I have time to myself.

LeeR1985 Sun 06-Sept-20 20:50:16

I like going for a wander round the local shopping centre and having a browse through the charity shops, see if I can find any good bargains smile

malglu Sun 06-Sept-20 20:51:09

I enjoy doing 'free' online courses especially maths and psychology based ones.

Reading! My TBR is an embarrassment

WombleLancs Sun 06-Sept-20 20:56:45

I've been carving wooden spoons for a few years, and that's a great way to relax. Fortunately, I have a laminate floor in my lounge, so it's easy to sweep up the bits when I've been carving indoors.

becksta75 Sun 06-Sept-20 21:03:10

I like watching detective dramas and thrillers on TV. I also like spending time discovering new places in my local area.

stamperamper Sun 06-Sept-20 21:09:22

I love to get out for walks - especially if the weather is fair. Also enjoy cooking, and comping whilst indulging in Netflix.

freefan Sun 06-Sept-20 21:11:49

I love to read and do crosswords, also when pain level is lower I like to get out for a slow walk with my husband and little dog.

Funkyferret Sun 06-Sept-20 21:18:02

I'll get out for a walk or do a few gardening jobs or jobs in the house that have slipped down the "to-do" list.

Sparklepants3 Sun 06-Sept-20 21:27:18

Knitting, reading, having a long bath. There's so much

cherylann2461 Sun 06-Sept-20 21:27:52

I do diamond painting as i can lose myself in this and forget worries and stress for a while

marpau Sun 06-Sept-20 21:29:10

I spend it reading as I never seem to find enough time to read.

rozina Sun 06-Sept-20 21:30:10

I am putting all my lovely photos from all over the world into new albums as the old ones are dropping to bits. This started in March at the beginning of lockdown and no doubt will finish at the end of lockdown as I have 56 photograph albums! It is SO therapeutic because, whilst I can't fly abroad at the moment physically, I am flying to these places in my mind and recapturing every moment. At the end of a session it feels like I've just come off the plane. Wonderful!
