Does it follow the experience that your mother had as to the symptoms the daughter experiences during the menopause?

renaplumridge Sat 26-Sept-20 10:24:04

Why at night do you wake up and Then flush, you would think it would be the other way around, you flush so the flush wakes you up.

My sister's menopause symptoms have lasted about 20 years; mine were over within 4 or 5. What causes such a wide variation between people with similar genes and environments?

Hi there is there a link.
I stopped seeing periods because of menopause when I was 47. I also had a merino coil fitted due to suffering very heavy haphazard periods.
Anyway I never seen a period for more than a year.
In the mean time my husband met me for someone else. A while later I met someone and like in a new relationship had lots of good sex. Suddenly out of the blue periods started again.
As soon as our sex life settled down again the periods stopped. Is there a link?

I had a hysterectomy age 25 yrs (due to life threatening growths of endometriosis & fibroids wrapped around all my internal organs). I was then on HRT for 25 yrs but DR took me off after constantly nagging me about breast cancer risks. Since stopping HRT have been in agony with joint pain and now been confirmed osteoarthritis - the estrogen in the HRT would have stopped that whilst taking them. Need advice about joint pain please.

I used diet to help with my menopause symptoms. I included lots of soya products for the phytoestrogens and regularly baked a’menopause cake’(liz learns). All this helped me an incredible amount when I look back at the few symptoms I did suffer with. Anyone else have similar ecpwriences

I am 52 and in recent years my periods have become very regular and my cycle is shorter. Now it’s usually just under 4 weeks, and when I was younger it was nearer 5 weeks. I was expecting them to become less regular as I got older! Is this usual? However, I feel lucky as I don’t have hot flushes or any other symptoms. Thanks.

I have not had a period for over 18 months but still having hot sweats and feeling out of sorts, I am 48 years old, thanks
I feel very different inside to how i was before the menopause. I have a more F--K it mentality to do as much as possible!!

Hot sweats start at 20:00 hrs each evening as regular as clockwork, tired fall asleep at 22:00 hours to wake an hour later struggle to sleep rest of night, feel exhausted , no libido and fed up, total hysterectomy 3 years ago, tried HRT but stopped due to health concerns , hopefully will end soon?? Would really help to know how long these symptoms are likely to continue and is there a safe magic cure?

Having had a hysterectomy at age 49 menopause started. since then I have been diagnosed with Lupus, could the sudden menopause be a contributary factor?

juliedee Fri 25-Sept-20 14:10:51

Hi I am mid fifties and the hot flushes are crazy at night time, don't want to take anything tbh, but is there something I could do to help it, getting irritable with lack of sleep some days!

SRal Fri 25-Sept-20 13:44:10

Any solutions for thinning hair?

gillyknits Fri 25-Sept-20 13:25:53

I had a hysterectomy over twenty years ago and went on HRT. Just an oestrogen gel and it worked well. Then I was taken off it because of some study on breast cancer which said HRT could cause it.The hot flushes and night sweats came back with a vengeance. I was then put back on the gel after about five years of misery, only for another ‘study’ to come along and was off it again with the same result.
I’m still suffering from the hot flushes and night sweats at the age of 73. Is there any hope that they will go away or is that it?

You're welcome Toad, I'm sorry that nothing helps.
I think that I've tried everything under the sun (or maybe moon).

Toadinthehole Fri 25-Sept-20 12:09:59

fanny, yes, Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride 50mg. It was the pharmacist who suggested it. I guess they don’t work for everyone. On ‘ GP’s behind closed doors’, a GP had recommended it for someone else who had insomnia, and he said it didn’t work for him either. I’ve tried ‘ white noise’, and it’s variations, which sometimes does the trick, but the only thing that I can really rely on is 3mg of zopiclone, if I’m desperate. They were first prescribed in 2015, and I’ve managed to keep the dose low. Luckily my insomnia seems to hit in bouts, so much of the time I don’t need anything. Thank you for your response.

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Sept-20 10:45:45

Toad-in-the-hole, are you sure that it was diphenhydramine and not the herbal one?

quizqueen Fri 25-Sept-20 10:20:52

Why does it seem so much harder to lose and keep off weight after the menopause?

stunningacorn Fri 25-Sept-20 10:15:15

I was on the menopause patches now don’t take anything was offered tablets but my mother died young 49 and darn take the risk felt safer with patches do you know when they will be available again? Xx

Toadinthehole Fri 25-Sept-20 09:17:38

Sorry... Nytol did nothing for me except give me a dry mouth!

Lclaytonuk555 Fri 25-Sept-20 08:32:05

I went through the menopause nine years ago - can I still get hormone changes that affect my mood?

pamelaJEAN Fri 25-Sept-20 07:21:56

I’m nearly 72 and still have the occasional hot flush, and certain times of the year have slight hair loss, I’m not sure if it is still to do with menopause, which I had in my 40s/50s had a terrible time then with flushes.

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Sept-20 05:07:06

Jasmine50
Try diphenhydramine.
It's an antihistamine sold as a sleep aid. It's available as Nytol (but NOT the herbal one, that doesn't do anything for me).
And Asda do their own brand called Asda Sleep Aid, so I imagine a lot of pharmacies do the same.
You have to get it over the counter, it's only a couple of quid.
It works a treat. I
I've also had some joy with the night time Rescue Remedy.
And there's always Night Nurse! That's potent stuff!

Lisafletch Fri 25-Sept-20 00:08:55

I’m 36 and for the last 3 months I’ve only had 2 days of light period each month I’ve always had 5 days of heavy period, so this is unusual for me and I have also had really bad sweets throughout the day and night is it possible that I could be going through post menopause? As I believe you can have this 10/15 years before you start the Menopause ?

I am having hot flushes and difficulty sleeping and have heard of a magnet that is supposed to help. Would you recommend these?
