I wanted to share DD poems for a long time but never knew where to do it! After the loss of her first born she wrote many fabulous poems to explain how she felt.....this is just one of them..
This after the birth of her second child. I think anyone who has lost a first child will understand.
"I'm a mum of Two!!
With my daughter in her pushchair
I walk on through the park
"How old is she?" A stranger asks
and the conversation starts
I don't mind if you talk to me
But inside I could burst
"please God don't let her ask me
if this baby is my first"
Should I just be honest
Is this only fair?
Or will the awkward silence
be far too much to bear?
"Please God don't let her ask me
if I plan to have another"
To see my next, as my second
hurts me as a mother
Don't talk about your pregnant friend
"she's thirteen weeks today"
Don't say "she's passed the risk stage
And all will be ok"
These naieve words, strike up fear
within my very soul
I can hear my own voice saying this
All those years ago.
I don't mind if you talk to me
but be careful if you do
My first baby sleeps in heaven
I'm an angel mummy too
A proud mum to BOTH my children
But labelled "mum of one"
A hurt that doesn't lessen
As the years go on
A Group of angel mummies
know exactly how I feel
But they also know I'm "mum of two"
and keep my angel real
