Ingredients

6 oz plain flour
4 oz butter
4 oz sugar
1 heaped tablespoon cocoa

Handy Hint

Economise by using a margarine instead of butter Make more healthy by using 1/2 wholemeal flour

Method

1. Mix dry ingredients
2. Melt butter gently then pour onto dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly
3. Pour into greased sandwich tin. Press down.
4. Roughen top with a fork, sprinkle with water & a little sugar
5. Bake at gas mark 4 or 180 degrees for 15 - 20 mins
6. cut into portions before it cools
7. Serve as a biscuit, or with custard, as pudding

This recipe was given me by a dinner lady 40 years ago. It was served at school with lumpy pink custard, and was a great favourite. The grandchildren always ask to make this recipe every time they visit, and have learned how to calculate for double quantities.
