Ingredients

Basmati rice measured to 425 ml in a glass jug
570 ml water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp turmeric
8 whole cloves
2 inch stick of cinnamon [bark for preference but ordinary stick will do)
6 bay leaves
50g unsalted butter cut into small cubes

Handy Hint

Don't eat the spices whole, unless you are DH!!

Method

1. Put the rice into a sieve and wash under a cold tap until the water runs clear then soak in plenty of cold water for 30 minutes. Drain.
2. Combine the drained rice, the water and all other ingredients except the butter in a pan with a heavy base. Bring to the boil.
3. Cover and turn the heat down very low (I use a heat diffuser to stop it sticking) and cook for 25 minutes.
4. Turn off and leave undisturbed for 10 minutes.
5. Add the butter and fork through gently.
