And if they were allowed to use the room free of charge, the tax man would tax it as a perk.

The nurses I have met and been involved with have been lovely people who will go above and beyond the call of duty for no reward. It seems to me that the authorities take advantage of this and are unreasonable in just this kind of way. Oopsadaisy if they would be taxed I'm sure something could be arranged eg a small voluntary contribution of £5 or what they could afford. Top earners seem to find ways of avoiding tax after all!

I work in a University and this week , anyone who couldn't get home was offered free accommodation in Student Residences !

I agree its outrageous Phoenix seems to be part of a current trend to penalise deserving people whilst handing out money to less deserving ones.
Bet the managers don't even go in to work.

I wouldn’t believe the tittle tattle you hear in village shops. My next door neighbour has been collected and brought back by a volunteer in a 4x4 since the snows set in.

She did choose to sleep overnight when she had a ‘quick turn round’ shift last night because she’s asked me to feed her cat this morning.

PS she’d staying rent free.

I agree it’s outrageous but tgere# no need to have an unwarranted pop at the managers - I happen to know FOR A FACT that managers are going into work not just as usual but also staying there longer to help deal with the consequences of the severe weather in all its manifestations - hospitals are not just about front line staff, as important as they are.

OldMeg's right! That certainly isn't the case around here. Nurses have had to sleepover and have been accommodated and transport has got people home. It's been lovely to see and hear about. UK' s not such a bad place when the chips are down. Pity it takes crises to show it.

Jane I lived in a village for 20 years and the misinformed and often vicious tittle-tattle had to be witnessed to be believed. It was a variation on the ‘never left the truth get in the way of a good story’ theme ?

You read something similar on FB sometimes because sadly I’ve a couple of friends who’ll repost anything without passing it over a reality filter. Gullible isn’t in it!

phonenix does say it's the shop keepers daughter that this has happened to, so is the shop keeper lying ? If it was Joan at No 23's cousin then I'd be dubious. I live in a small town where rumour is rife.

Well if I heard this I’d be sending an email at once to my local MP to complain and to the CE at the hospital concerned.

If it is true, and given it was the shopkeeper telling the story about their own daughter it does sound as if it's true, then I would be absolutely appalled - and like maryeliza I would be complaining to the highest authority about it.

There is so much talk of nursing staff, and true they do a fabulous job. However how the other roles, the kitchen staff they are never mentioned, porters, Physios who are in an acute setting.....
Yes I do work still in healthcare and feel for all the staff that never get considered, but are vital and many and also make a magnificent effort just because it’s so vocational, and to my mind undervalued.

We have a nurse and a police officer in the family, a 4x4 was available to get them into work and back again.
I live in a different area to you kitty so don’t know how things are there.

I think there would have been public outcry if this were true.

Sorry, not kitty but Phoenix because you live in an area badly hit by the snow it coukd be that the 4x4 was not available to take them home at the time of their shift changeover.
