My lovely friend died ten year ago, A few years before she died she gave me her pass book for the Yorkshire Penny Bank which she had been given in 1935. I thanked her and said rather than me keeping it perhaps I could find a museum or ask the Yorkshire Bank if they would be interested, and she agreed.

1935 was the Silver Jubilee of King George V and some (maybe all) children had a bank account opened for them with a deposit of one shilling from the King.

I took it into the Yorkshire Bank and the cashier asked what was the bank supposed to do with it! Oh dear!

I emailed the Beamish Museum but they never got back to me so I can only assume they are not interested.

Has anyone any good ideas? I feel sure it will be of interest somewhere.

As the bank was started in Leeds:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkshire_Bank

it may be of interest to the West Yorkshire Archive Service

www.wyjs.org.uk/archive-service/

or Leeds Museums

As a family historian, I would plump for the West Yorkshire Archives. It would be lovely for someone a few generations on to be researching family history and to come across this.

I grew up in S.Yorkshire, I well remember taking my money to school every Monday with my blue Yorkshire Penny Bank passbook, and paying my money in. I presume the school had an arrangement with the bank.

That would have been in the late 1940s to early 1950s.
