What colour do you see?

I heard about this on the radio and was hoping to see a photo - I see the dress as gold and white in the first picture, blue and black in the second one.

I saw it white and gold on the news and on here.

Blue and black.

I saw it as white and gold but DH saw blue and black. We were about to argue about it when we saw the catalogue picture on the news. I was very surprised!!! No two people see colour in the same way though.
My cousin has two boys who are colour blind, one sees green as purple and the other sees it as blue!

They've just done a feature on this dress on our local news as the designer is from around these parts. On the news it was blue and black but when I followed the link above I saw white and gold.

They are explaining it on the One Show.
I saw light blue and gold.

When I followed the link, I saw the white and gold on the left, but the dress in the picture on the right was blue and black which is what I saw on the news at lunchtime.

I also saw light blue and gold but not many people did.

The explanation in the video was that it is down to how your brain interprets the signals sent by the rods and cones in your retina - but the same rods and cones are seeing both pictures. It doesn't make sense. I'd like to see a better explanation. It must be something to do with the techniocalities of the different photographs.

I don't understand the explanation about rods and cones as this applies to everything we look at. Why should this dress's colour be in dispute and not lots of other things? I assume that, as someone said in the narrative, the lighting or the flash was somehow involved in the explanation.

I saw this on the tv and most people saw white and gold but I saw a darker blue than in this picture and black.

I don't care what colour it is – I wouldn't be seen dead wearing it.

I would say the same as looplou, blue and coffee coloured lace.

I used to have a towel that, imo was green but everyone used to tell me it was brown.

I asked DD (by text) today which colour she preferred, blue or green (I was trying to choose something for a present for her).
She said 'bluey-green - why?
