Premium bonds

I am finding that the money I have invested in Premium Bonds is giving me an excellent return, much better than the money I have in my savings account. ERNIE comes up most months. I have the full amount one can own in Premium bonds, and my three daughters have kindly said I can put the full amount in their names too, on the understanding that if ever I need it they will withdraw it for me. Obviously I tell them to keep any prize money.

Aren't you lucky...?

Charleygirl Tue 02-Feb-16 17:04:05

I am not too sure what the point is. Am I being overly thick?

Badenkate Tue 02-Feb-16 17:25:35

I've just given up with Premium Bonds. We didn't win anything for over a year, so wr've put the money towards a lovely new conservatory - much more enjoyable?

kittylester Tue 02-Feb-16 17:26:59

Lovely!!

Jalima Tue 02-Feb-16 17:29:13

Let's hope you all stay friends then.
You are gifting them £50,000 each, above the limit of £3,000 pa
You cannot buy them for a child over the age of 16
And, of course, you cannot dodge IH by doing that.

Why do you think we might be interested?

Jalima Tue 02-Feb-16 17:31:25

Enjoy your conservatory badenkate
I am sitting in mine, nice and cosy, as I type this smile

mumofmadboys Tue 02-Feb-16 17:34:33

As long as you live for seven years there will be no inheritance tax payable.
If you are not interested Jalima don't read the thread but there is surely no need to be rude.

grannylyn65 Tue 02-Feb-16 17:51:23

Have won once in 2 years, £25 !

annsixty Tue 02-Feb-16 17:58:42

3×£25in more years than I can remember but I only have £1000 worth. Just forget until something crops up like this thread and then of course I expect £1 million the next draw!!!.

Jalima Tue 02-Feb-16 19:08:54

If you are not interested Jalima don't read the thread but there is surely no need to be rude.
mumofmadboys not being rude, but surely this is another spoof - there was a very similar one not long ago.

Anyway, you would have to be careful with the laws on money laundering being so tight these days, we had to fill in forms in the presence of a bank official when transferring funds to DD for her wedding.

Jalima Tue 02-Feb-16 19:10:41

And I am curious, not being rude, as to why a poster's financial affairs would be of any interest to other posters confused

durhamjen Tue 02-Feb-16 19:16:31

A spare £200,000?
That would buy a nice house up here, for cash.

Jalima Tue 02-Feb-16 19:22:27

In used fivers grin
(you would be chased for money laundering then!)

durhamjen Tue 02-Feb-16 23:59:09

You don't need used fivers to be chased for money laundering, Jalima, just a big cheque after you have sold a guest house and want to put it in a different bank.

Everything we do is entirely legal and above board, none of us would have it any other way.

Luckygirl Wed 03-Feb-16 08:55:52

We have quite a few and on average they give us as good a return as is available anywhere else at the moment. But not this month - boo hoo!

NanaandGrampy Wed 03-Feb-16 09:07:01

In the current financial situation we too use Premium Bonds as a saving source. We have certainly had a better return than from the building society , even winning £75 this month.

When the interest situation improves then we'll move the money out to where we will get a better return.

I like the fact that at the end of the day you get all your money back - I'm very risk averse smile

JJ50 Wed 03-Feb-16 09:14:21

One of our children won £1000 a month or too back, which makes Premium Bonds a very good investment indeed.

harrigran Wed 03-Feb-16 09:49:01

My premium bonds give me a better return than any of my bank accounts.
I am surprised that JJ50 has shared online, she could leave herself open to investigation. The hoops I had to jump through to purchase bonds for GC was most off-putting.

Charleygirl Wed 03-Feb-16 09:51:21

I agree harrigran- one never knows who is reading these posts.

JJ50 Wed 03-Feb-16 10:37:57

I don't buy bonds for my children, who are in their 40s, I just give them the money to purchase them.

Jalima Wed 03-Feb-16 10:54:49

Apologies JJ50 if your OP is genuine.

However, I am surprised that you are able to do this as I also had to jump through hoops (like harrigran)and fill in transfer forms under the eagle eye of a bank official when transferring less than that to DD for her wedding, the reason bring given was because of money laundering rules.
And we had had an account at that branch for over 20 years, the assistant knew me but rules are rules apparently.

Stansgran Wed 03-Feb-16 11:02:01

Same here for helping dd with wedding. And the premium bonds have been barren for the last year.

JJ50 Wed 03-Feb-16 11:11:40

I have never had a problem transferring money into my children's accounts, you can't transfer more than £10,000 at anyone time.
