The weather is great and the Inverary trip is still nearly a month away. Is anyone up for meeting in/near Edinburgh some time in the next week or two?

Jane10 Fri 03-Jul-15 08:31:53

Yup! I sure am. Would depend on the day though. Dunits coming through on the 20th (I think)

thatbags Fri 03-Jul-15 08:59:22

Yep!

Marelli Fri 03-Jul-15 09:22:22

And me!

Elegran Fri 03-Jul-15 10:42:29

What is the weather forecast like? If the 20th is going to be fair, we could go somewhere like the Botanics?

It looks as though it could be 20 degrees with a couple of morning showers.

So on 20th thatbags, Jane10, Marelli & me and possibly Dunit ?

Now where?

Marelli Sat 04-Jul-15 19:35:40

How do you get to Botanics from Princes St, Elegran? I've been before, but a the time I was working at Inverleith, and it was just down the road a bit!

Jane10 Sat 04-Jul-15 21:04:21

We'll need to be crystal clear which gate/tearoom/cafe/restaurant we're meeting at too! There are 2 gates and 3 places to eat at (I think). I'm going for lunch there tomorrow so could do a recce?

20th fine for me, but will have minima with me, if okay with everyone.
Would love Botanic Gardens but have not got a clue where they are!
thatbags I will already be in Edinburgh but will be travelling back on the 17.09 if you wanted to hang on that long

Marmight Sat 04-Jul-15 23:31:41

Count me in!

How did lunch at B G go Jane10. Hope it was good, is it suitable for an onslaught of Grans? I presume we don't need to book anything. What time suits everyone?

Jane10 Tue 07-Jul-15 07:48:51

It depends what people want to eat. There are 2 self service cafes which can be very busy or there is a sit down waitress service restaurant. I prefer that one as the menu is varied and interesting, there are tables outside and there are loos etc but it depends on what people fancy. I think it would be safer to book.

Elegran Tue 07-Jul-15 08:50:56

Is it OK for Minima? Whereabouts in the gardens is it?

When does the train from the West get in? (I should know by now but I always forget)

Its perfect for Minima (we've taken GCs there since only weeks old). Its the restaurant at the John Hope gateway. Can be accessed via the other entrance and a walk through the Botanics. Google it for menus etc.

BiNtHeReDuNiT14 Tue 07-Jul-15 17:15:42

Sounds good...if everyone is ok with that I am happy to do the booking.
I will already be in Edinburgh but the last time thatbags and myself got the train that arrived into Edin @ 11.50.

thatbags Tue 07-Jul-15 17:29:34

It's about a half hour walk from Waverley Station to the Botanic Gardens, or there are buses from the bridges.

Elizabeth1 Tue 07-Jul-15 17:32:38

It's my birthday on the 20th and my twin sister and I are celebrating our day in Dundee. Everyone have a lovely time at the Botanic gardens. sunshine

Elegran Tue 07-Jul-15 19:01:01

The number 27 goes from Hanover Street, the 8 from the Bridges or from down beside John Lewis (exiting the station via the back way under Waterloo Place gets you down Leith St without going up the Wavrley steps).

None of the buses stop at the West Gate, which is where the restaurant is. They stop in Inverleith Place on the far side, so there is a walk through the gardens. OK if it is not raining. The alternative is a 29, which is just as long a walk, but from a point a few streets away to the southwest - or a taxi to the West Gate.

Jane10 Tue 07-Jul-15 19:25:03

I can get myself there via another route. I live quite close to the Botanics. Wd a taxi fit the rest of you in? It would be simpler

BiNtHeReDuNiT14 Tue 07-Jul-15 20:25:59

I'll go early to get a look around the gardens first and will walk down.

Lys60 Tue 07-Jul-15 20:34:35

Trip sounds great but I live too far away. Enjoy!

Elegran Tue 07-Jul-15 20:57:17

There are four from Waverley if I join the trainers there - a taxi will fit four no bother.

Marelli Tue 07-Jul-15 21:05:00

Sounds like a good idea, Elegran. Think our train gets in around the same time as bags'. smile

thatbags Tue 07-Jul-15 21:06:32

If it's a fine day I will walk down. I'll have been sitting for two hours and will be ready for a leg stretch.

Jane10 Tue 07-Jul-15 21:31:55

Dunit I'll meet you for a walk first if you like? Have you booked or will I?
