Ingredients

2 hot cross buns
1/4 litre (1/2 pint) milk (or you can use half milk, half cream)
2 eggs
Butter
Jam or marmalade
Nutmeg

Handy Hint

More eggs and cream would make it extra luxurious, but this was for leftovers!

Method

1. Slice, butter and jam/marmalade the buns; then slice vertically.
2. Whisk eggs into milk (or milk and cream).
3. Butter a dish generously. Lay in it the sliced buns on their cut sides, pour on the liquid and shake on some ground nutmeg to taste (I like lots).
4. Stand for 1/2 hour then bake, (around 150C in a fan oven, but I know this is variable so its a question of keeping an eye on it) for around 30 mins.

This is basically a left-over cobble job as I found some stale hot cross buns and couldn't bear to bin them.

I have in the past used old pannetone or stale brioche but these hot x buns were even tastier.
