I would like a day ….

I would like a day when waking up isn’t realizing it’s another day I haven’t talked to my son.

I would like a day not waking up to tears.

I would like a day when I’m not missing Harry doing something new.

I would like a purely happy day.

I would like a day when we don’t wonder when it will all end.

I would like a day when we don’t wonder how it will all end.

I would like a day looking forward to seeing my boy, touching him.

I would like a day when his wife calls for a chat.

I would like a day when we share time with Harry in our home.

I would like a day just like every other grandmother.

I would like a day when I don’t miss my son.

I would like a day looking forward to tomorrow.

I would like a day that doesn’t end in tears.

I would like any day but today.

SJP It takes a moment to send good wishes for a birthday. Yet, in this busy, bustling world of ours [in spite of instant access by means of emails and text messaging] the moment seems too much to ask for. I hope with all my heart that you receive a card together with a loving message. smile

If Cari and Co are agreeable, I would like to write an article on Gransnet for a well respected magazine. This particular forum deserves a special mention.

soop Thank you so much for your support on a previous thread.
I certainly wish you well for your proposed article. You may like to know that Jane Jackson who started the 'Denied Contact' thread will be having an article in 'Woman' magazine due out next week.

<<hugs>>

soop go for it! There is no other set up like GN! xx

soop Thu 10-May-12 18:33:31

Ariadne You, my dear, have my respect. smile

jeni Thu 10-May-12 19:06:41

Just don't mention us by name!

Annobel Thu 10-May-12 20:24:01

Good idea soop. You will be a great advertisement for us.

whenim64 Thu 10-May-12 20:44:11

Great soop. I'm sure my ex-DIL will not be looking in that particular magazine - she wouldn't know ladylike behaviour if it jumped up and bit her on the a**e! (Don't think they'd want an article from me, for that matter) grin

nanachrissy Thu 10-May-12 20:47:01

If anyone can do it soop it's you! smile

soop Fri 11-May-12 12:58:34

Promise faithfully that no names will be mentioned...'though I may make up a few such as tinkles and mardy if that's okay with you. I have finished the first draft. Every afternoon as I lie on my bed [surgeon's orders!] I think of more to say. I shall need to keep the article to 900 words, so I do not wish to make a "bish" and omit to highlight the meaningful issues close to all our hearts. If Geraldine agrees, I shall complete the article in time for print sometime in June. You'll understand that I mustn't be seen to be too pushy... otherwise, the editor wink may get ruffled. Having said that, he was the one who suggested the article in the first place smile

Perhaps it is wishful thinking that by reading about how your actions have affected others, will make you change them but all power to the wheel and let them know...let them read about how peoples lives have been made so sad by the unnecessary withdrawing of contact...I for one will admit that I went to pieces and contemplated suicide on more than one occasion when the children have been used as punishment tools....Having said that I have been lucky with lots of family support and have come through it....no suicidal thoughts for a long time. My missing family link may need me one day and I want to be there to help if I can...

jeni Fri 11-May-12 13:11:20

Look forward to seeing it! When in June?

greenmossgiel Fri 11-May-12 13:15:37

That's such a good idea, soop. It will touch the hearts of many and perhaps give as much comfort as this thread has done for so many of us. smile

glassortwo Fri 11-May-12 13:38:29

soop I think you will handle it perfectly flowers

soop Fri 11-May-12 13:43:14

I've just sent a brief email to the editor. When I have an answer, I shall let you know. smile

soop Fri 11-May-12 13:47:28

Editor responded within minutes. He's a whizz grin He suggests 15th June. This date can change depending on so many other factors. Anyway, an article will be published, and I shall do my utmost to highlight the sorrows [together with the joys] of we Gransnetters. flowers

Nanban Fri 11-May-12 13:53:38

Can you let us know which magazine it will appear in? I want to make sure I don't miss it.

soop Fri 11-May-12 14:00:33

Nanban I do not think I'm allowed to advertise. Geraldine must delete my response if I'm out of order. It is a weekly magazine that a Lady would read. Editor [new] is my young son.

jeni Fri 11-May-12 14:21:29

I thought that was the one. If its about GN ie US , it'd not be advertising, more like warning or threatening!

glassortwo Fri 11-May-12 14:26:17

And free advertising for the site wink

soop Fri 11-May-12 15:18:38

jeni precisely! grin glass ditto wink

soop Fri 11-May-12 15:39:37

I keep returning to the article - deleting passages to make room for this forum to be highlighted. Although I wish to strike a balance between lighthearted and serious issues, alienation of the kind discussed on this thread is akin to mental cruelty and deserves special mention. Off to lie down and duly ponder. smile

soop Sun 13-May-12 11:09:28

On Wednesday, Bags has kindly agreed to read the draft of the GN article. She's such a bright spark. I need reassuring that my words do GN proud. smile

harrigran Sun 13-May-12 11:28:22

Good luck with the article soop, good to know that Grans will not be named, some on here might be recognised by friends and family.

soop Sun 13-May-12 11:39:08

harri *No names! No personal details whatsoever*. The article will, I hope, encourage new members. GN has much to commend it. For me, it has been a revelation. I've come out of my shell. Enjoyed interaction with some lovely people. I've laughed, cried and above all, feel less lonely. smile
