Obama is hinting that something needs to be done about the gun laws "regardless of politics" - let us hope he has the courage to follow through with this.

Heartbreaking.

Thank you for the link Faye. I have forwarded it to my mailing list people.
When there seems to be nothing we can do it is a small relief to find something that just might help.

The same in Australia Granny23 I was living in England when the Dunblane Tragedy happened and had only just arrived back in Australia when the Port Arthur shootings occurred. Gun control was brought in not long after, not that the UK or Australia ever had the same amount of guns per person. Apparently in the US for every hundred people there are 90 guns.

There is a new petition for gun control on Avaaz.

Harrigan at least, here in Scotland, something WAS done about gun control, in the wake of the Dunblane Tragedy, but I don't know what it would take to shift opinion sufficiently in the USA

When, oh when, will US politicians be brave enough to stand up to the gun lobby and change that ridiculous "second amendment"? What need the right to bear arms in a civilised society?

It seems that no lessons have been learnt from previous tragedies. It is unthinkable for this to happen in a primary school and just before Christmas too.

Is there any way we can express our shock , horror and sympathy to all concerned?

jeni Fri 14-Dec-12 23:30:24

Quite!

glassortwo Fri 14-Dec-12 23:17:22

jeni the first I heard of it was on the News at 10 and I was the same, I can not begin to imagine what the parents are going through.

I've only just learnt about this !
I'm horror struck!
How can anybody do this?
