To think Liz Jones is a bitter and twisted old hag?

I'm not surprised La Jones is picking on Clare Balding as she has an ill informed (IMO) down on the racing industry
I'm half way through Clare's book, My Animals and Other Family and sorry, Liz, I'm loving it.

Told yer! This thread should have been knocked on the head ages ago! hmm

Ana Wed 16-Jan-13 22:28:00

And looking back again, I've realised that I don't know whether nanaej was referring to Sel's post or crimson's, so I'm doubly humiliated and humbled.

Ana Wed 16-Jan-13 22:21:46

Sorry, sorry - just realised my post should have been addressed to nanaej ! blush crimson, I really do apologise - whatever must you have thought of me?

merlotgran Wed 16-Jan-13 22:05:25

I don't have a problem with your post, crimson. It's horse racing speak and nothing to do with being racist.

Ana Wed 16-Jan-13 22:04:44

Who accused you of being racist, crimson? Or said your post was offensive? confused

I can see you feel strongly about this subject, but I was merely pointing out that Sel didn't actually use the phrase 'The Arabs'.

crimson Wed 16-Jan-13 21:59:49

Ana; when people sell horses they sell them to the Arabs, the Irish; if they're not very good they're sold to the Italians. She didn't say which stable she referred to so I just said 'to the Arabs'. Was it Godolphin or were they sent to Dubai? If she points out which stable it was I'll ask gransnet to amend my offensive post sad. I'd be interested to know where they are and what they're doing. I can't believe that anyone would think I'm racist in any way; in fact I'm pretty upset by the accusation. But in answer to the question posed by the title of the thread; yes; she is. Even if not on the outside certainly from the inside.

merlotgran Wed 16-Jan-13 21:35:10

Sorry. That last bit of my post is confusing. I meant LJ giving it out, not Sel confused

merlotgran Wed 16-Jan-13 21:31:10

If I reply, Lilygran, this might go to the top of the active list and jingle will go into meltdown grin

I do see where you're coming from with LJ. When her diary first appeared in the You mag some years ago I though it was a piss take wind up. Bit by bit she appeared all over the DM, mostly bleating on about her life and everyone who treats her so badly. If it weren't for other people (who obviously know her) writing about her I would think her 'character' was fictional as well. I don't think it is though. I think she believes in the monster she has created. I know Sel and others don't agree but that's fine. I know I've upset some on here by being so critical of LJ and maybe she is happy in the knowledge that if you give it out you must expect it back but I stand by my opinion.

LJ won't stop at Clare Balding. There will already be someone else in her sights.

Ana Wed 16-Jan-13 21:25:46

Sel actually said her horses were sold to 'Arab stables' crimson - not 'The Arabs'.

nanaej Wed 16-Jan-13 21:21:38

lily you may be right.. she may have simply created a persona and the real Liz Jones lives a normal, happy life in Surbiton, or somewhere equally innocuous, making a good living stirring up GN & MS forum contributers through her fictional column!

PS Sorry to bang on about it but I still find the generic use of 'The Arabs' a bit troubling..

Lilygran Wed 16-Jan-13 20:49:58

There hasn't been a lot of support for my view that LJ is a character created by Liz Jones so that she can write confessional columns without actually writing about herself and her family. If she isn't a fiction writer, she must be slightly deranged. By her own account, her husband asked her over and over again not to write about them or him. And then she wrote endlessly about not understanding why he was so detached from her. Her new boyfriend, by her own account, asked her not to write about him. And she writes about him every week. She has been so broke that her credit card was rejected and still her priority was to get her body waxed and her hair and nails done. She only buys designer clothes and accessories but she can't afford to buy food and adopts a couple more terminally ill horses. What real person would make these kinds of choices?

petallus Wed 16-Jan-13 20:38:44

You're welcome smile

Greatnan Wed 16-Jan-13 20:17:25

Thank you, Petallus.

Sel Wed 16-Jan-13 20:11:38

I read many female columnists, never felt any need to make nasty remarks about any of them. I still don't understand what LJ brings out in people. I've never read her being as nasty as some of the comments on here would suggest. She is an animal lover, a vegan, she has multiple rescued animals which seem to cost her a fortune - if she makes remarks about the CB's clothes (and she is the Fashion editor) coloured, because she actually disapproves of the horse racing industry, fair game.

Nonu Wed 16-Jan-13 15:53:37

Thanx for replying Petallus .

I get it , ^I think !!

smile and brew after all it is 10to4

petallus Wed 16-Jan-13 15:29:43

Only just seen your question nonu which I assume was addressed to me.

Yes of course I did think I was legitimately extrapolating from Greatnan's remark. Although I would not have used that word in this case.

I thought Greatnan was implying that since LJ was vitriolic herself it was alright for us to be vitriolic to LJ.

However, Greatnan has said I was wrong to make that assumption and she should know.

Anne58 Wed 16-Jan-13 15:15:42

She was very insulting to Clare Balding!

janthea Wed 16-Jan-13 15:10:52

celebgran smile

celebgran Wed 16-Jan-13 14:50:27

I avidly read Liz Jones still in the You mag each Sunday I keep hoping for happy ending for her.

In lots of ways I agree with things she says, however she is a rather eccentric lady, not suprise her latest chap was not keen on sharing bed with a load of cats!

However it is never nice to be insulting and she is attractive lady who makes best of herself.
She obviously has some writing talents or else she is in cahoots with the Mail management team because she is always in the paper!!

Nonu Tue 15-Jan-13 21:40:41

Anyway off to watch a movie ,

Sweet dreams .

moon

Nonu Tue 15-Jan-13 21:24:01

So in this case was it appropriate or innapropriate ??

Don"t want to be a beast , but in what context ?[ps thank you for answering]

petallus Tue 15-Jan-13 21:04:11

Extrapolate was a bit of a buzz word when I was studying/teaching psychology in that you should be careful not to do it inappropriately.

But sometimes it was appropriate.

Nonu Tue 15-Jan-13 20:00:05

Tell you what honey , she is younger than me .

Whether more attractive , the jury is still out on that one .

LOL

Nonu Tue 15-Jan-13 19:57:30

Extrapolate , is that not a term usually used in maths ??

Ella46 Tue 15-Jan-13 19:54:04

She's not exactly young and beautiful either Nonu
