As a single person [I do have a grandniece who is a cutey pie ]I don't like the word Gransnet as feel it is not all encompassing & we should be respected for our individauality as people not to focus on our age often causing the most concern. I suppose this is nit picking but I still feel mentally I am in my 30s ??!! Silver surfer is more fun.

Kitty watch out, I'm growing my hair so that I can go back to my cottage loaf!

Bags Fri 18-Jan-13 12:12:26

I could till a few years ago though – less than a decade. Not bad. grin

Like being able to dance through the pain barrier. Couldn't do that now.

What annoys me is that when I was a teenager they had only just been invented so we didn't make the most of it! Also when I started work, the bosses were all in their late 50s or older. When I got to that age, the bosses were in their 40s and I was old enough to retire. confused

petallus, ana, wink Quite. I haven't forgotten. I had masses more energy when I was younger. I miss it.

Grannyeggs I was referring to the word as used by the OP, not Gransnet, hence the quotation marks. smile

Ana Fri 18-Jan-13 12:08:14

Ah! That would explain it, petallus. Delusion! wink

The Dido song.

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 12:07:25

I loved that!

And you're only 40 now glass.

Grannyeggs Fri 18-Jan-13 12:06:41

I don't think it does focus on age so much, as we know we are a variety of ages, we just have this one thing in common, and it is a big thing , we are all Grandparents. Age has got very little to do with it.

petallus Fri 18-Jan-13 12:05:06

I too get irritated by all this emphasis on 'staying young'.

When you are 70 ( my age) you shouldn't be feeling like you are 30 inside IMO.

Anyway, people only think they do. They've just forgotten what it's like to be young.

glassortwo Fri 18-Jan-13 12:04:22

I became a Grandma at 38.

Movedalot Fri 18-Jan-13 12:02:54

Why does 'Gransnet' focus on age? Grans can be in their 40s or 90s so to assume we are all 'silver' is not a good idea. I'm not silver so wouldn't qualify.

I think people mean different things when they say 'I still feel in my 20s/30s/40s. Some of which are silly/negative and some of which are good/positive. Without explanation it is not always possible to tell which. I most certainly don't feel as old as many of my own age and think my attitude is much younger than some of half my age! grin

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 12:02:46

It's ok! I'm with you

Bags Fri 18-Jan-13 12:02:46

Well, I'm that too, gillybob, as are we all, but I'm not so fond of that song smile

gillybob Fri 18-Jan-13 12:01:07

" I am my own special creation.........." Bags

Oh no, that's not Dido. (I am a poet and didn't know it) smile

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 11:59:55

I mean, pardon?!

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 11:59:40

what?

Bags Fri 18-Jan-13 11:57:23

The Dido version

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 11:53:35

skybluepink 'Gransnet' was sort of born out of the hugely successful 'Mumsnet'. The name was just obvious for it.

Enjoy. smile

Silver surfers are much, much older than we are! They also have tight perms or a cottage loaf hair-do, loads of wrinkles, lisle stockings (also with wrinkles) shawls, an apron and, most probably, a rocking chair where they knit bootees! grin

Bags Fri 18-Jan-13 11:49:15

Song in head....

"I am what I am..."

How does it go?

Bags Fri 18-Jan-13 11:48:22

And I don't care if people think I'm a silver surfer.

Wish I could windsurf on the silvery loch I can see out of my window.
