We are all, presumably, mature adults, and if you have nothing to contribute to a serious, or sometimes tragic, thread, would it not be better to stop trying to trivialise the subject and find another thread where your wittering would not disrupt the flow. And please don't accuse anybody who objects of having no sense of humour - most of us just know when it is appropriate to make jokes.
Not easy this one - because the intention of someone is not always clear. There is no facial expression, and words can be read and interpreted in different ways. Recently I felt uncomfortable with the word 'stupid' used - because it is a word that I, personally because of a teacher's repeated use towards me, and because as a teacher it sits wrongly with me. Followed by the fact that I felt that what was being laughed at may not have been what what apparent at first sight- having experienced the same myself and with friends too.
Some things are funny to some, and not to others- for all sorts of reasons. And some people can't cope with too much seriousness and feel more comfortable with defusing the tension with humour, or even banter.
The t'internet is certainly a place where misunderstanding can happen with a flash, and linger for a very long time.
