To object to inane 'banter' on serious threads?

We are all, presumably, mature adults, and if you have nothing to contribute to a serious, or sometimes tragic, thread, would it not be better to stop trying to trivialise the subject and find another thread where your wittering would not disrupt the flow.
And please don't accuse anybody who objects of having no sense of humour - most of us just know when it is appropriate to make jokes.

Just a light-hearted thread seeing the fun in Joey Barton's daft impression of a French accent, Jingle grin

Galen Mon 06-May-13 22:10:34

If you find out jing, can you explain it to me. In words of no more than four letters please!

j08 Mon 06-May-13 22:02:05

I have counted up the days on my fingers and I think this thread has gone on for sixteen days now. And I don't know what the fuck it's all about.

I don't think I ever did.

Could anyone explain it please?

Not easy this one - because the intention of someone is not always clear. There is no facial expression, and words can be read and interpreted in different ways. Recently I felt uncomfortable with the word 'stupid' used - because it is a word that I, personally because of a teacher's repeated use towards me, and because as a teacher it sits wrongly with me. Followed by the fact that I felt that what was being laughed at may not have been what what apparent at first sight- having experienced the same myself and with friends too.

Some things are funny to some, and not to others- for all sorts of reasons. And some people can't cope with too much seriousness and feel more comfortable with defusing the tension with humour, or even banter.

The t'internet is certainly a place where misunderstanding can happen with a flash, and linger for a very long time.

Nonu Mon 06-May-13 20:11:44

But it could also mean they fall asleep over their computor .

Which I can assure you 110% does NOT happen when one strolls rounds one"s local corner shop , i.e. M/S

And to be emulated. All I need is the willpower.

Good exhaustion.

Bags Mon 06-May-13 19:53:27

It is both invigorating and exhausting.

absent Mon 06-May-13 19:51:22

Don't people who walk – as a serious undertaking, not just strolling around Marks & Spencer – actually find it invigorating rather than exhausting?

Nonu Mon 06-May-13 19:12:05

Only thing is ,it just occurred to me some posters are probably tired after walking , so perhaps let them be.

Nonu Mon 06-May-13 19:00:10

Lets get the party started !
