how do you feel when someone gives you a present that you once bought for them!

That's one good thing about having a 'not so good' memory, I probably wouldn't notice if a present was returned. Many is the time I have admired necklaces worn by one of my daughters only to be told I bought the things in the first place.

Our 2 younger daughters birthdays are January 1st and 5th. My in laws weren`t renowned for giving birthday presents, but one year both girls, then aged about 7 and 5, unwrapped their presents from Grandma and Grandad S, to find inside each parcel a box of chocolates. On each box was one of those labels printed on the packaging, one saying "Happy Christmas Grandma from Anthony", and the other saying "Happy Christmas Grandad from Anthony", Anthony being one of their cousins, then aged about 16. Wonder how he would have felt if he`d known?

As Lona pointed out, you could wrap it up and give the item back the next year In fact you could carry on like that forever until one of you passes away, should you think you may go first, specify in your will for it to be gifted back to sender!

Years ago, for C........,I bought my MIL a framed print she had admired. I never saw it in her house, but, a couple of years later I spotted it hanging in her daughter's house!! Where, she knew I would see it. Good relations eh?

Every year she gave me M&S vouchers, so, I continued this charade by returning them beautifully wrapped, back to her.

Yes, I once gave some friends a good bottle of French wine which we had bought in Nice, and a few months later when they came round for a meal they brought the wine with them.
It later transpired that for some reason they are Francophobes and will not have anything French in their house.
So now when they come round I serve cheap Spanish red

I dread doing something like that as I can never remember what I have given people in the past or indeed what they have given me. But if I had chosen something I liked, I suppose I'd be pleased. Moral: only buy presents you would like to receive yourself - you probably will!

biker I think that giving them back again would be really funny (I do have a warped sense of humour).
You could see if she remembered and if not, say nothing, but if she did, you have a chuckle together!

lol @ Elegran well actualy I was a bit miffed....so when OH son and daughter in law visited..I said "Oh I have a present for you " lol I explained what had happened..and she was thrilled! with the gloves lol

I'd find it quite funny, life's too short for grudges against a person who simply has a bad memory! Frankly we all get presents that we don't want, even from our nearest and dearest.

Shrug and move on. Assume that they meant well. Don't buy any more presents for them that might come back to you.

It is just possible that she found the gloves so useful and so pretty that she thought she would buy some for you too. Just!
