As a younger member of this community I want to take great care not to offend any of the other Gransnetters. I would be grateful for you input into how best to address you as a community. Would the term 'Senior user' be considered to be defamatory when talking about your use of the internet or would you rather the more colloquial 'Silver Surfer'.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Adam

Yes, less of the 'old' if you don't mind! grin

Nonu Wed 26-Mar-14 13:26:41

You"re a saucy one ROSE , don"t include me , Alright !!
wink

kittylester Wed 26-Mar-14 13:06:50

Speak for yourself Rose grin

rosequartz Wed 26-Mar-14 13:01:21

Oh come on, what's wrong with old fogies?!

Nonu Wed 26-Mar-14 12:28:22

I don"t believe one can get a SENIOR railcard unless one is over a certain age!!
wink

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Mar-14 12:21:40

Yeah alright Bags! hmm grin

thatbags Wed 26-Mar-14 12:07:22

Elder is also a tree.

thatbags Wed 26-Mar-14 12:07:00

Elder and Senior are both surnames. #justsayin'

Ariadne Wed 26-Mar-14 12:02:58

"Elders" always reminds me of members of non conformist churches, and anyway, isn't "elder" also an adjective, maybe with an implicit noun again?

Doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things, does it? grin But I do enjoy being a pedant footering around with grammar!

Soutra Wed 26-Mar-14 11:33:34

ariadne grin

Aka Wed 26-Mar-14 11:26:29

Elders?

Ariadne Wed 26-Mar-14 11:24:54

If that is so, then does it not suggest that the railcard is senior, rather than the possessor?

Nonu Wed 26-Mar-14 09:27:48

OOOPs a daisy NOT bus pass , railcard !
grin

Ariadne Wed 26-Mar-14 09:25:53

I suppose the noun being qualified by "Senior" in some cases could be implicit. #musing

On my bus pass it just says "concessionary travel" (had to dig it out to check, as I never use it.)

Am aware I am splitting hairs now. Sorry! Will retire to pedants' corner.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Mar-14 09:20:47

Adam was just after a freebie! (Don't blame him either!) grin

Nonu Wed 26-Mar-14 09:19:41

JINGLE , nothing at all , in fact that is what is written on bus passes !
wink

Ariadne Wed 26-Mar-14 09:19:29

"Senior" is very American, isn't it? I do hate it when adjectives become nouns.

You could be right about Adam - his English is a little awkward. Intersting discussions, though!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Mar-14 09:18:32

Phew! So glad! (I really have been worrying) grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 26-Mar-14 09:13:36

Which is very kind but it was fortunately saved in the nick of time and quite delicious!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Mar-14 08:57:52

I just worry about Cari's dinner. shock

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Mar-14 08:57:01

I like the label "seniors"

What's wrong with it?

Nonu Wed 26-Mar-14 08:38:38

I feel quite sorry for Adam actually.

I don"t think there was any particular malice in his post !

it is maybe that English is not his first language , others have come on here with a similar problem !

Poor Adam !

Aka Wed 26-Mar-14 08:16:40

What a pity I missed all the fun yesterday hmm

kittylester Wed 26-Mar-14 07:55:51

'Our lad' or 'the lad' might be slightly more patronising Soutra grin

Soutra Tue 25-Mar-14 23:21:10

Best larff I have had all day! If you want to refer to us as seniors can we refer to you as callow youth lad?
