Comfort food is best. What's your favourite?

Hot buttered toast and a lovely cup of tea. Just thinking of it gives me a warm feeling

Mashed potato (well seasoned) with a hole made in the middle filled with butter and cheese grated over the top, then grilled to melt. Accompanied by a small bottle of beer. (No wonder I'm 'chunky'!)

Vegasmags,Rice pudding with skin on does it for me too,with raisins added if preferred,also really naughty but very,very good is eating condensed milk straight from the tin mmmm at the thought of it.

After a hard(ie force 6 or very choppy or wet sea crossing in our sail powered boat!) sphaggetti hoops on toast!

Nellie, fennel is good for indigestion. I like fennel with cheese. I like fennel with everything. I drink fennel tea lots of the time.

I like mushroom risotto, but I never thought of putting Pernod in it.
I'll have to try it.

Gally you and my DH would be a match made in Heaven, that is just what he would have answered to this question! Although he would have a dab of jam and not a dod.

Ambrosia creamed rice - a whole can - with a large dod of raspberry jam preceded by a marmite sandwich made from squishy white bread with lots of butter. Totally disgusting but comforting nevertheless

Scrambled eggs on toast. With cheese on top!

Some very sophisticated tastes in comfort food on here! Mine is simple... cheese on toast, Wesleydale cheese with cut up spring onions on it and a dab of mustard, toasted until golden and bubbly.

Oh ffinnochio I'm with you on the risotto! Although I would have Martini Bianco instead of the Pernod (Don't like aniseed drinks) and perhaps just a little lemon with the fennel.

toast and rabbit pie - not together.

Mine would have to be my mum's meat and potato pie ,made with the Sunday roast and topped with the shortest short crust pastry ever and wonderful gravy. She was born in 1904 and really knew how to cook.

I have yet another corned beer hash recipe. Sliced corned beef, cook and beat/cream together potatoes, cabbage and onions (2:1:1 ratio) place on top of corned beef, grate cheese on top, cook till golden and bubbly and serve with caramelised red cabbage or boiled beetroot.

I made DH a corned beef hash tonight (a bit different to the one above) - onions, diced and cooked in some oil, diced potatoes, peas and corned beef. Simple, but he enjoyed it. I did it in the microwave.

I love fish pie, or sometimes sausage, mash and onion gravy, with or without baked beans.

Any comforting pudding with custard. And lots of [cake].

That's probably why I'm going to weightwatchers.

I can give you an account of what is not comfort food.

My DH was to be out early this evening and decided to cook our main meal for his lunch. I was out and came home to a cheese, cauliflower and pasta concoction to which he had added... some cardamom pods, fennel seeds and too much nutmeg. Without wanting to be ungracious, Yuk!

How can anyone think that cardamom and fennel work with cheese. I like those spices in curry, but with cheese?

Beware of men let loose in your spice cupboard. Indigestion tablets are at the ready!

Ffino - keep it a secret. The High Priestess delegated all cookery to 'er 'umble servant a long time ago. But what a feast of taste sensations you're all coming up with. A friend swears by kipper and jam sandwiches, but I would have to refrain from them.

My favourite is porridge made with full fat cream milk lots of sugar with a chopped banana followed by toast made with hand cut slices at least an inch thick covered in dripping and salt and a pot of tea. Back to slimming world next week and haven't had dripping or full fat milk in years.

Fish pie with peas and a glass of chilled white wine!! Tonight's food isn't bad though - chicken with tomatoes and mozarella and parmesan with garlic roast potatoes and peas plus

My comfort food is savoury mince that has made a nice gravy, on toast, with a poached egg on top laced with ketchup. Toast all soggy from the mince. Yummy I want some right now.

DH has just returned from fishing in the freezing cold

Luckily, superwife [halo emoticon] knows what a grumpy old sod hungry chap he'll be and has lovingly prepared a delicious chicken casserole that will soon shut him up warm the cockles of his heart.

I've got the blues but I haven't got any corned beef.

No hope for me.

Oh wait a minute. I have got a Frey Benton tinned pie. That will have to do the trick.

Just returned from my weigh in at Slimming World (another pound bites the dust) so I am definitely deprived of my sort of comfort food at the moment. Cheese on toast, crumpets dripping with butter, sausage in onion gravy served in a huge Yorkshire pudding, rhubarb crumble and custard, rice pudding with a skin on - not forgetting meat pie, chips and peas. Easy to see where my spare tyre came from!

Toasted banana, marshmallow and chocolate sandwich with a mug of Ovaltine..... Bliss!
