Both my 2 youngest gran Kids year 7&8 wear these plimsolls / daps as school shoes they are only £4 a pair but should I tell my daughter to get them new leather school shoes or say the shoe zone plimsolls are a good idea ?

I got Converse lookalikes from Next for GS1 and he was perfectly happy that he wasn't wearing a 'label'. He is a savvy consumer, that boy!

I bought some Converses on eBay. They were a lot trendier than I'd imagined. "When are you going to be wearing those?" said DD1. "When you're chilling with your homies?". Off to the charity shop they went. smile

I wholeheartedly agree jingl, serves me right for a pitiful attempt to be 'trendy' grin
Just ended up 'hobbling around like an old bag lady' said DS

I don't think they are made to accommodate old bones loopy. grin. I need a bit of support and footbed padding.

He got them in a sale, and used his Christmas money to buy them. I think they will last the summer.

loopylou Fri 12-Jun-15 18:33:55

That's why I tried out DD's, I found them initially comfortable but then ouch...

Ana Fri 12-Jun-15 18:33:16

He'll probably have grown out of them by next week...hmm

Ana Fri 12-Jun-15 18:32:36

I wouldn't pay £60 plus for a pair of trainers/plimsolls however good they look! shock

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 18:28:58

Vans are really good. Comfortable, nice looking, good quality. GS1 looks great in his. Like everything else, you get what you pay for.

loopylou Fri 12-Jun-15 17:09:31

I borrowed DD' Converses....I still have the scars from blisters so definitely not for me!

downtoearth Fri 12-Jun-15 17:00:30

I haven't got any but would like some ..GD has trainer habit and I fund that ....lucky if I can afford plimsolls for me these days grin

thatbags Fri 12-Jun-15 17:00:02

In the primary schools around here, kids have to change into their plimsolls for indoor wear. I asked why once. The answer was something about carpets hmm.

Ana Fri 12-Jun-15 16:58:50

Vans are the same sort of thing. Ridiculous prices!

annodomini Fri 12-Jun-15 16:56:50

Just a brand name, bags - who can tell why?

thatbags Fri 12-Jun-15 16:44:22

Converses, which are dead cool fashion accessories, are essentially expensive plimsolls.

Do any gransnetters wear converses?

Why are they called converses, btw? Odd name for shoes.

loopylou Fri 12-Jun-15 16:38:16

If a youngster then hmm, if older sad?

downtoearth Fri 12-Jun-15 16:24:52

maybe someone with a plimsoll fetish..grin

elena Fri 12-Jun-15 15:42:09

It's clearly a wind-up - some people get a thrill (yes, that sort....) writing about footwear and getting other people to write about footwear.

As ever......DFTT.

(don't feed the troll).

loopylou Fri 12-Jun-15 15:37:05

True....but gran Kids? grin

annodomini Fri 12-Jun-15 15:16:31

Most people who have English as a second language are far more careful about grammar than many English speakers!

soontobe Fri 12-Jun-15 15:02:59

grin
But I do think we cant always assume that someone who posts on gransnet has english as their first language.
If I were to go on a french website and talk about plimsolls, I would struggle grin

loopylou Fri 12-Jun-15 14:17:15

What is this connection between blinkin' plimsolls and bored teenagers? Gran11's SATS English results might make interesting reading hmm

Could at least have chosen something anything vaguely interesting.....

trisher Fri 12-Jun-15 14:09:41

Well Gran11 won't have done that well can't tell the diffference between "to" and "too", can't punctuate, and doesn't know past tense of the verb "to see"
Not just uniform this school needs to tighten up on!
