Boycotting Amazon when they pay Clarkson £800,000 per episode?

Amazon are said to be paying Clarkson £800,000 per episode and the other presenters and co workers will also be paid huge amounts when they start working for the company. So AIBU to boycott Amazon when they can afford such ludicrious amounts to a man who does something wrong and then gets rewarded in such way?

It really teaches the young the correct way, doesn't it?

Far from doing any good, these boycotts may do harm.May affect jobs and so on.Depends on how big the company is.I think if you feel you want to boycott certain firms and you think your reasons are valid, then go ahead. It should be personal to you though, and not turned into a crusade.

Whether these boycotts do any good is a moot point. Thousands of people (especially those local to Bristol) stopped buying Cadbury chocolate when they were taken over by Kraft because of the broken promise to keep the Keynsham factory open. I still don't buy Cadbury (or Kraft) items but I don't think for a single minute that it is causing the CEO and board to tear out their hair in frustration. It does, however, make me feel I am supporting in a small way those who lost their jobs.

Unless Amazon takes to shooting employees for late-coming, I would always use them.smile

I don't know about 'virtue signalling' I think it is more a case of some people not knowing where their 'caring' should stop.As a result, they take on all and every percieved social injustice, and what they see as wrong with the world in general and their whole life consists of worry and petitions, but also maybe the glow of being an eco warrior and one who spreads the word.
it must be exhausting.I can't imagine living in this state of constant high anxiety.

Alea Sun 18-Oct-15 14:43:56

Is this another example of "virtue" signalling?
It's a free world and a person may choose whether or not to shop at Amazon/drink Costa coffee/eat Toblerone /buy tee shirts at Primark (even watch Top Gear shock) without claiming the moral high ground.
Personally I can't imagine Amazon are crying all the way to the bank.

Could this be how they get the money to pay Clarkson?
Or maybe they'll set the court costs off against tax, to prove they are honest traders.

Although I'm sure you'll find something bitter to say about that too...

Have a look at the This is Good News thread.

Knowing that this crisis is going on, Amazon has pledged to give $200 million to building space rockets. Nice to know he cares.

I will never stop shopping with Amazon no matter how many petitions there are, I do not feel any guilt whatsoever when my free delivery parcels arrive

Will not read articles like this for much longer. Fox News has just bought National Geographic.

durhamjen Sat 12-Sept-15 17:05:48

That's okay, then. You carry on using it. Doesn't bother me.

We're doomed all doomed!

Other 'carcinogens'

Toast: contains acrylamide, a genotoxic carcinogen produced as a result of cooking starch-rich food at high temperatures.

Coffee: a byproduct of roasting coffee beans is acrylamide. There have been attempts to force coffee companies in California to add a label warning of cancer.

PVC plastic: emits a carcinogenic gas called vinyl chloride, better known as that not so lovely ??new-car smell??.

Broccoli, onions and strawberries: natural foods containing acetaldehyde, a carcinogen.

Elegran Sat 12-Sept-15 16:21:58

Equal rghts for weeds! Lets get up a petition against speciesism.

Alea Sat 12-Sept-15 15:57:34

Might actually also be harmful to weeds. Has anybody got up a petition on their behalf?hmm

Ceesnan Sat 12-Sept-15 15:48:09

Just had a closer look, and it says "Probably carcinogenic" hmmm. Personally I think it would be better to come up with a definite reason before starting the hysteria. Mind you, just my opinion.....

Ceesnan Sat 12-Sept-15 15:42:00

merlotgran you beat me to it!

Ana Sat 12-Sept-15 15:41:13

These petitions are getting ludicrous!

merlotgran Sat 12-Sept-15 15:39:42

Is there a petition targetting garden centres and agricultural merchants or is it just Amazon in the firing line? hmm

Alea Sat 12-Sept-15 15:35:34

Oh but it does do the business with the weeds shock
I make sure not to use it on a windy day and wear protective gloves.

durhamjen Sat 12-Sept-15 15:28:50

Just been sent another petition about Amazon, to get it some brownie points.

act.sumofus.org/go/11039?t=2&akid=13482.8185493.Y8bguS

Apparently Roundup has been found to be carcinogenic by the WHO. Amazon sells a lot of it. The petition is to ask Amazon to stop selling Roundup.

Ana Wed 02-Sept-15 18:33:21

Yes, and in the most melodramatic way possible...hmm

rosesarered Wed 02-Sept-15 17:56:31

sometimes it seems to be almost a competition on here, to see who is the most caring.
