1. Outrage...everything is outrageous now
2. Offence...everything is offensive and everyone takes offence
3. Like...as scattered in conversation

And any one of the thousands who finish their sentence with an upward inflection. Grrr. It's not a question!

On trend,in branch, (refering to banks)

seagazer Thu 19-Nov-15 10:14:20

"and yeah" used in conversation at the end of a dialogue. Makes me want to scream "and yeah WHAT"

jocork Thu 19-Nov-15 06:33:29

Let's touch base.

Bellanonna Thu 19-Nov-15 00:11:11

This is morphing into pedants' corner !

NotSpaghetti Thu 19-Nov-15 00:08:31

"Bear me a moment"
(arrggghh!!!)

Bellanonna Wed 18-Nov-15 23:58:31

Oh rosequaetz. I so agree about resting on a bed of! I think restaurants are doing that a bit less often now but it has always irked me.

merlotgran Wed 18-Nov-15 22:23:10

Why do words that used to end in 'ism' now end in 'ality?'

Professionalism is now professionality hmm

poshpaws Wed 18-Nov-15 22:20:55

Oh at last! Another hater of "at this moment in time"! You've made my day!

rosequartz Wed 18-Nov-15 20:18:14

Learning curve
I've been on one of those since I joined GN 2old4hotpants grin

rosequartz Wed 18-Nov-15 20:17:04

"resting on a bed of creamed spinach"
A bed of spinach is usually in the garden firmly rooted in soil hmm

rosequartz Wed 18-Nov-15 20:15:38

And what's more, phoenix, it does rather imply that whatever is 'resting' is not actually dead.

what's the emoticon for giggle?
rofl

gulligranny Wed 18-Nov-15 19:48:46

Please may I add the horror which has me shouting at the tv/radio at the moment - "Here are the headlines this hour ....." (or similar). "This hour"?????? No, no, no.

Indinana Wed 18-Nov-15 18:34:50

But at least it's resting on a bed grin

phoenix Wed 18-Nov-15 18:27:03

shock indeed, Ana grin

Ana Wed 18-Nov-15 18:16:44

And what's more, phoenix, it does rather imply that whatever is 'resting' is not actually dead...shock

phoenix Wed 18-Nov-15 18:13:49

"Resting" when used on menus, for example "resting on a bed of creamed spinach"

I don't want to eat tired food!

Granoveve Wed 18-Nov-15 17:41:29

Pan fried! What else do people fry in?

It's presumably just to make frying acceptable again in the same way as Kentucky FRIED Chicken is now KFC.

'I have to say'. Why do you have to say? Why not just say it?

Granoveve Wed 18-Nov-15 17:16:12

The massive sales near us are like that NfkDumpling. There's nothing massive about size 8 or 10. My DH complained that massive sales were always small sizes until he lost weight. Suddenly, the sale sizes were all the size he was previously.?

annodomini Wed 18-Nov-15 16:34:43

'Hard working families', used in every other sentence by all too many politicians. Can't they think of another cliché to invent?

AyjayF Wed 18-Nov-15 16:27:45

Pre-order.
Surely it's just order?

starbird Wed 18-Nov-15 16:26:55

I hate 'those ones'. (When the word those will do on its own). also the fashion of changing nouns into adjectives by adding 'ing' as with 'concerning' meaning 'cause for concern' (as opposed to 'about'). EG. His actions were very concerning, instead of His actions were a cause for concern, or His actions were disconcerting.

phoenix Wed 18-Nov-15 16:17:18

Well, 2old some of them do have nannies! grin

Jane10 Wed 18-Nov-15 15:35:16

Daddima I well remember our English teacher making us rewrite sentences to avoid the use of 'get'. It still irritates me when I hear the almost ubiquitous 'can I get'.

Lapwing Wed 18-Nov-15 15:34:34

'Blue sky thinking', and all the rest of corporate speech. Used to play b#llsh#t bingo at office meetings and crossed off each of the nonsense phrases as they were spouted.
