1. Outrage...everything is outrageous now
2. Offence...everything is offensive and everyone takes offence
3. Like...as scattered in conversation

I hate most of the above no matter how hard I try not to care as after all, the language is continuously evolving.

I do especially hate 'a rollercoaster of emotions' and those who say 'amount of' rather than 'number of' eg 'The amount of animals set free ....'

"Your call is important to us" (when you've been hanging on the phone for ages listening to horrible music)

"I'm good" (in reply to "how are you?")

"Don't worry, I'm not trying to sell you something" (they are)

"I love him/her to bits"

Can I get, as in can I get a cup of coffee? Absolutely drives me mad!
Yet another Americanism. Whatever happened to, "please may I have?"

NfkDumpling Tue 17-Nov-15 19:11:57

Calling hulking great husbands 'Babe'.

Lessons being learned when they're not.

And, I fear this may make me unpopular, people who refer to themselves as their dog/cats mummy or daddy.

'Judgey' - as on the Discussions of the Day list... hmm

"I have to say..." This is particularly annoying. My sister uses it all the time.
"Reach out..." What the heck does that mean!!

shysal Tue 17-Nov-15 15:49:44

On adverts - discover your happy. Happy is not a noun!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 17-Nov-15 15:22:57

I'm adding something I keep seeing on Facebook selling groups.

"Needs gone" (as in "needs gone by tomorrow")

It makes me want to SPIT

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 17-Nov-15 15:21:51

gillybob

Well at this moment in time I'm sitting with this lush cup of tea eating an absolutely awesome hot cross bun. It is literally teaming with fruit and is totally to die for. I hear what you say, but personally I don't care if it makes me obese I will take the chance although if I put a stone on I will be gutted. Listen, I'm not giving up a little treat now and again for anyone, end of .

grin grin grin

Indinana the phrase 'forever home' came into usage when adoption workers used it to help young children understand their final move (to adopters) as being 'forever'. It's now been widely adopted (excuse the pun) by animal charities.

Indinana Tue 17-Nov-15 14:43:55

Forever home - when re-homing dogs, cats etc. The word is not an adjective, it's an adverb! What's wrong with saying 'permanent home'?

Lona Tue 17-Nov-15 14:42:52

Inspirational!
