The young woman in Boots wearing a red jumper with: 'Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animal' in large letters was also wearing a small badge saying she was the Shop Manager ...

I had never contemplated buying a 'Christmas' jumper until I saw this in Asda. Had to have it! The top right hand robin has a sparkly heart for a chest, although being Asda and cheap, it is becoming a bit bobbly..... Talking of bobbly I also got a hat to wear with it at our village carol fundraiser!
I did feel a right wally wearing them, but it raised a few laughs......tchwink
It's a bolshy robin and however hard I try, it remains upside down!)

I don't do jumpers but do have Christmas cushion covers and tea towels. They get packed away with the rest of the Christmas decorations and don't take up a lot of space

I have a very sweet reindeer one bought very cheaply & on 3rd year but my friend has a jumper with 2 big Christmas puddings on it & the slogan 'Hands Off My Puds'' Sorry but it made me laugh!
It is T shirt material so much better for me as I get too hot in wool so I may invest in one- just for fun.

ja Never mind. I still got the "God bless you" he definitely reserves for the older ladies of the congregation. DD just got the second hand on top of her's treatment. tchhmm

That would have been a Santa Convention Eloethan. (Yes. Pub crawl by any other name) I saw a Santa on a motorbike last weekend. Hat on top of his helmet. tchhmm

It seems that this Christmas clothing thing is big business and is becoming more and more a requirement for an increasing number of events.

It has been suggested that we wear amusing Christmas jumpers for our choir social tomorrow but I'm not going to. As someone else said, what's the point of spending out money on an item of clothing that is unattractive and only wearable once a year? And I don't like bright red and green anyway.

My family and I were in Liverpool Street yesterday and the whole area around Spitalfields was absolutely choc a bloc with young people dressed in Santa outfits - there were about 400 or 500 of them. My son said it was a giant pub crawl which must have been organised on social media. I must admit it looked great fun. (and the Santa Claus outfit retailers must be laughing all the way to the bank.)

You must have dazzled the vicar jingl
tchgrin

Forgot to mention - the snowmen are made of sequins!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 13-Dec-15 22:38:56

I've got a Christms jumper. It's light blue with snowmen on it. I got from Marks and Sparks with 30% off. I wore it to church today. For the Xmas gift service.

I've never had a Christmas jumper before.

I really wanted robins, but they were all sold in large my size.

My DH had to buy a Christmas jumper for work in the Co-op. He only has to wear it on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day! They have to buy their own, they can't claim any expenses towards them either.

I'm wearing a plain scarlet vee neck jumper - if I had a patterned Christmas one I'd most likely wear it during December.

janeainsworth Sun 13-Dec-15 20:06:15

Yours sounds very tasteful monica.
tchwink

I have a Christmas t shirt-well, it's actually a pyjama top but looks like a t shirt. Can't deal with jumpers, need layers. It's navy with a lovely fat cartoon robin on it.

M0nica Sun 13-Dec-15 19:58:29

I confess, I have a Christmas Jumper. It is not outragious, in red, with a white fairisle type pattern that is actually rows of alternate small Christmas trees and rheindeers with a scatter of stars. It looks very Scandinavian.

I wear it quite a lot around November/January. it is warm, festive and not too obviously Christmassy nor is it OTT. My sweater will be in use for at least five years, this is its third year.

Elrel Sun 13-Dec-15 19:36:15

I navigated Boots website and emailed a restrained suggestion that the jumper was neither appropriate nor professional.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 19:06:35

That's OK janea tchgrin

I must admit I was a bit shocked to hear DGD say it .....
But then I am an old-fashioned granny
I asked DS and he told me it was from the film

See, I can't even get the quote right either! It's Merry Christmas etc etc etc

janeainsworth Sun 13-Dec-15 19:02:22

rose oops!tchblush

Stansgran Sun 13-Dec-15 17:26:14

I saw the M&S Christmas sweaters on line and thought- ah Landfill. And where do people keep the Christmas cushions and bedding for the rest of the year? They must live in mansions. Or do they buy afresh every year.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 17:22:59

ps the lyrics said famice but it should be 'famine' !

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 17:21:23

No, it was just just another throwaway line janea, it's a song by Olly Murs:

I Blame Hollywood"

^Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
I wish that's how I felt
I just can't hide the fool that I am
As I let you walk away into the sunset
It's just another famice
I try to do the right thing
I ended up with nothing good^

^(Do you know what?)
I blame Hollywood^

tchsmile - note the hat, not a jumper!

janeainsworth Sun 13-Dec-15 16:54:06

It's all very well blaming Hollywood roseq but Hollywood doesn't actually force people to buy the things, does it?

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 16:40:59

I was a bit shocked when DGD said 'How are you, ya filthy animal' to one of her soft toys the other week until it was explained that it is a quote from 'Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York' which she had watched the day before.

It's supposed to be funny (I think). There are pictures, jumpers etc etc with this quote on apparently. I blame Hollywood.

Coolgran65 Sun 13-Dec-15 16:40:16

I wouldn't be seen in a Christmas jumper....never.
With a boob expanse like mine..... not a good look.

I think they're ok on the right occasion, but not with insulting motifs.

janeainsworth Sun 13-Dec-15 16:31:47

Apologies in advance, to anyone who is looking forward to wearing their Christmas jumper.
I don't mind spending money at Christmas on presents big or small, when I know the recipient will enjoy the present and get some use out of it.
I don't mind spending money to make the Christmas meal special.
I don't mind spending money on having friends and neighbours round for drinks or a meal to enjoy the Christmas spirit of goodwill.
But I object to the waste of buying clothes with ridiculous designs and in horrible colours, that are only going to be worn once or twice and make their wearers look ridiculous too. One of the manifestations of the over commercialisation of Christmas.
Bah humbug! That goes for reindeer antlers too. tchconfused

Am quite surprised by Boots as I worked for them for at least 20 odd years in one role or another until 2003,their emphasis was on professional at all times.courtesy was a by word and customer always right in our 3 local ones this does not apply as the couldnt be less helpful. My time for working for them we were allowed one pair of stud earrings,a discreet wristwatch, one ring and wedding/engagment rings, nail polish neutral and not chipped, court shoes and tights at all times even when temperatures soared, they had to be flesh coloured or dreaded american tan.Pharmacist managers wore business suits, even tinsel decorated earrings where frowned on....how time have changed have worked in community pharamacies and other chains during the years where dress code is more relaxed..as younger managers are appointed the less stuffy and traditional ideas are bound to change..christmas jumpers one thing but with slogans like the one seen...I am surprised that this was seen as appropriate....I would have been happy just to wip me tights off when I was hot grin
