hmm not sure how I feel about this which was posted by a lady who runs a small charity helping the refugees. On the one hand is it good publicity about the plight of the refugees and how much help they need?
On the other hand is it a Hollywood actress going out there and 'virtue signalling' (as they say)?

If she goes home and tells her compratiots that they need to take more refugees into their rich country that could be a good thing.
However, Greece (and Turkey) is really struggling to help the refugees.

I think that it's all the unsung heroes and heroines who are helping who deserve our applause, not a Hollywood film star who flies in and out with a film crew.

Or AIBU?

Spent many times at Symond's Yat, and Tintern Abbey.
Are they the frackable side, or not?

I wonder how many she will take into one of her homes and how she is personally funding them. Not got any time for her anymore, she looked just awful in her black bra and white jacket so we could all see her magnificent breasts, she should use some of her cash to buy a t shirt.

I am far more interested in what a person does or say than what they wear

Absolutely Anniebach!

Merlin (BBC1 a few years back) was filmed in Puzzlewood. Strange place it is. Can't say I like it too much. Bit oppressive.

I love the Wye Valley. Take GSs there every summer. I actually went in a canoe a couple of years back.

Turkey seems to manufacture inflatable boats. I've been wondering how they could stop all these awful drownings if they could stop exporting them to turkey and they manufacture them. I've wondered where the life jackets have come from. It was the mention of he canoe that made me post this. Didn't mean to wander.

I realised that this thread was 10 years old when I saw a reference to the princes' mother being 'our head of state'.

It might be but why is AustinSmith picking up a very old thread to post in favour of a very controversial proposed development?
Strange.

I respect those who work out of the spotlight and those who work in the spotlight, if good is being done this is all that matters ,

Quite so! I couldn’t agree more.

Lots of famous people are ambassadors for UNICEF and other organisations/charities like this.

Good for them, I’d say ANYONE doing anything to help and to raise awareness needs a huge thank you.

I know cheaper in Wales, will the government build houses in mid Wales or reduce unemployment in South Wales ? Monmouthshire is flat enough for new housing estates and factories

Good points! Investing in housing for Mid Wales and tackling unemployment in South Wales could make a big difference. Monmouthshire’s flat land seems perfect for new developments.

What’s that got to do with the 10 year old OP 🤷‍♀️
You or the party you support obviously have a reason why.

Weird to have such an old post back again shock

Oreo Sat 15-Feb-25 17:14:30

Or as RR might say ‘ the best part of a decade’ old 😄

I think that AustinSmith may have a vested interest in pushing for a controversial development on environmentally sensitive land to which there is a lot of opposition. I did report the post but obviously GNHQ did not agree.

If someone cares enough to use their name/fame to help highlight those suffering in the world is a good thing surely.
As for virtue signalling, is a strange term I prefer not to use, mean what is the opposite to this ‘nastiness signalling’, in which case I prefer the former.

Babs03 Sat 15-Feb-25 17:23:04

Oh dear this is an old thread 🤔

Rosequartz: SS! When America have Trump in power with his Nazi like ideology? It would have been better to use her whole name, especially as she is an ambassador for UNICEF and her political views are probably the other end of Trump's and his ilk.
