We are not great event celebrators in our family, Christmas apart. Birthdays get celebrated as and when, other anniversaries and days like today, generally go by without much commemoration, except, possibly, a meal out (any excuse for a meal out). If DC hadn't sent cards I probably wouldn't even have remembered what day it was.

I never feel comfortable if I am riding a band wagon and Mother's Day, like St Valentine's Day, always seems to be a pumped up commercial band wagon. My children show their love and affection is so many ways throughout the year, Mother's Day seems quite superfluous.

DS said that in the quite large office where he works, he was the only one going home to see his mum. Seems it's fading fast.

Glad your DD explained why she couldn't come to see you jingl. I haven't gone south this weekend for various reasons, but anyway, DS2 had to take one child to Taekwondo grading and the other to school football tournament while his partner is at work - in retail management. No wonder they never have time to come north - the traffic has to be all one way.

No fuck it bucket here this year! So much better than last year when my DS and I had the ructions and the police were called.

I got a lovely card off him yesterday, with flowers, butterflies and glitter and lovely words wrote inside. Maybe the tantrums are coming to an end? Let's hope so.

Other than that, nothing off ED, never mind, but gorgeous fluffy little girl is having flowers delivered with the supermarket order this week, isn't she clever and very thoughtful?

Overall, a great day had. I had a read of my paper with my breakfast, had a lovely sleep, bubble bath, a great supper and watched a funny film/drama with June Brown and Penelope Keith in.

I rarely get any mention of mothers' day from my DS or DD. It doesn't bother me. This year, tho, my DD sent a text saying 'Happy Mummy's Day, hope you have a great time wearing bandages and stumbling around with arms out front.'
I was happy with that , and no sign of miffdom.

I always get flowers which I really appreciate and always visit my own mum with a little present and a card. However, both my brothers are of the opinion that mother's day is commercial nonsense and don't bother! Their attitudes don't bother me greatly but I can see my mum is a little hurt by it....boys eh!

Have always thought Mothering Sunday/Mother's Day slightly extraneous. I usually only remember when it is if and when my daughter gives me a card, which is very sweet of her. Otherwise surely birthday and Christmas is enough?

Have just joined gransnet- was looking through various thoughts on different forums. Haven't had time to read through all of this, but was struck by the original post... If the daughter plus her family spent one weekend day with the grandparents, surely said grandparents would not expect to have the same again the next weekend? I would have thought it unreasonable and rather demanding to want that much time... Just my thoughts on it x
