That my new next door neighbors have painted on their end gable wall. All the other bungalows in the road are painted a crême colour and we are were a neat and tidy road

Ghastly!

I still can't see Nits. It looks more like a W and Nate. Which makes about as much sense! grin

It's horrible.

I like it. Too many boring houses around.

Some years ago I was running an arts outreach project for YP aged 11 - 21 and graffiti art was all the rage. I got an street artist from Bristol (no, not Banksy) to come and run a workshop with a group of them. They painted a blank wall down a wall-lined alleyway and turned it from a ghastly space covered in obscenities to a very interesting piece of art. I obtained all the necessary permissions from the owners and the council etc. The art remained there unsullied by the local youth, because they owned and appreciated it and made sure it was taken care of.

A few years later a developer built a terrace of houses along the alley opposite the mural and the owner of one of these complained to the council about the mural as they could see it from their upstairs windows (the wall on their side of the alley masked it from downstairs). I was pretty peeved when the council had it painted over - the owners of the house could not have failed to see the mural when they chose to buy the house. There was nothing offensive about the mural - it was colourful and creative.

And, guess what happened....? The young people who had made the mural got stuck in and covered it in spray-painted obscenities and frankly I did not blame them. No amount of effort by the council to scrub these off worked, as by the next day it was all back again.

The irony was that the same council had funded the workshop in the first place!

eg, if they are plumbers, they may not get so much work. But if say they own a betting shop, what they have done probably would not affect their income.

obieone Tue 26-Jul-16 17:08:23

Out of interest, do you know what job they do?

obieone Tue 26-Jul-16 17:07:13

I have mixed feelings.
On the one hand I am in favour of a man's house is his castle, or whatever the expression is.
But on the other hand, I dont think things should be that bad that neighbours should be a nuisance to others. And I think what they have done, constitiutes a nuisance.

They paid £350000 for the bungalow a year ago and have spent at least a couple of hundred thousand extending and modifying it. My house is probably the most expensive in the road worth probably before they moved in about £5000000. I'm told local estate agents have downgraded this road because of them and that was before this monstrosity.

How could a Spitfire lower the tone?

Neversaydie Tue 26-Jul-16 16:46:38

We are about to have a new garage door DH says you can get them with a Spitfire on (other designs are availabe )I'm very tempted ..It's a big garage and we are the first house in the street so everyone would pass it .Would 'lower the tone' nicely

TriciaF Tue 26-Jul-16 16:20:35

I know how you feel, Galen. Our neighbour isn't as close as that, but he built what he calls a barn right plonk in the middle of our lovely view. He told us he was building a barn and had got permission, but it turned out to be a huge monstrosity.
He came round when they'd finished to return our scaffolding tower, which he had borrowed and I'm afraid I told him it was an eyesore. I don't think his wife ever forgave me as she'd designed it. We planted trees to block it out, and they've left now.

Asbo not associate stupid tablet.

harrigran Tue 26-Jul-16 16:19:19

Enough with slagging off the plastic grass, it is brilliant and mine cost more than the rest of the entire landscaping. I like Banksy but that artwork is not in the same league. We are thinking of trying to get an associate on a neighbour who will not keep his garden tidy.

gettingonabit Tue 26-Jul-16 16:14:00

I love it! Makes a change. No doubt I'm in the minority tjoughgrin

annsixty Tue 26-Jul-16 16:10:49

I thought it said nits or nuts, obviously they are out to shock. I assume we are talking high priced houses here.

ninathenana Tue 26-Jul-16 16:09:50

Words fail me hmmconfused

granjura Tue 26-Jul-16 15:57:01

Well, I would not be keen- the plastic lawn would upset me more, I have to say. How about talking to the Council, with other neighbours, and ask them for advice. But I'd tread carefully as they could become unpleasant and as well as unsightly.

Stansgran Tue 26-Jul-16 15:44:14

I think it was a shark in Oxford. I like street art but to be frank your neighbour isn't Banksy.

nanaK54 Tue 26-Jul-16 15:42:39

Oh it's absolutely awful ?

whitewave Tue 26-Jul-16 15:41:23

What an odd lot they must be. You can never choose your neighbours that's the trouble.

Teetime Tue 26-Jul-16 15:40:07

I think its horrible and quite out of place in a residential area I hope you are going to some local support have it removed.

Galen Tue 26-Jul-16 15:39:28

It's inappropriate for the area. The lawn is plastic. They've done it to annoy the neighbours. It says nits

whitewave Tue 26-Jul-16 15:35:33

Surely it is all about what is appropriate. Didn't someone in Oxford have an airplane or something similar stuck onto their roof?

annsixty Tue 26-Jul-16 15:32:56

Is it a message?
